We booked on the day today 21st Oct 18. Kindly Rusty accommodated us on a lovely spacious table. Food to die for, beautiful beef and pork tender thick cut, didnât see turkey but surely just as lovely. Major plus point homemade large Yorkshireâs, so much more special than all other pubs. Maybe we should start a competition for the pub with best HOMEMADE Yorkshireâs and stunning meat . It really is best part of the meal. I asked for semi rare beef if possible but was aware we were a late mid afternoon booking, however, yes they served me two huge delicious slices of medium rare beef. Veg mixed all perfectly cooked carrots with fresh dill was it ? broccoli parsnips I had to bring some home sorry for embarrassment but Iâm the lucky one with a beautiful thick beef sandwich with the lovely spicy hot real horseradish sauce served. Yum. Serving came piled high with best meat on top of 3 crispy large roast potatoes. Veg as above served separately plenty of it, more for the asking along with gravy if wanted. Basically nothing was too much trouble, thank you to all staff and chef. 5 đ cannot wait to return. Our family will not bother going anywhere else from now on with the beautiful Sunday lunch this restaurant serves. Knowing we can be sure of the same. Totally relaxing easygoing friendly and a cute black puppy Labrador? escape made for all the more fun. Whatâs not to like! Thank you đ Rusty and the chef and pub for our lovely relaxing time spent with you. A winner!!! The only time I remember visiting this pub before was years back for a lunch during the day and I have done myself a miservice for not returning much sooner food was good then too! thank you all for a...
Read moreI have visited The Travellers Rest (no apostrophe!) over a number of years. Always liked it. However, I haven't been for a number of years.
My female friend and neighbour, soon to be a septuagenarian, and I, a grumpy old man, visited The Travellers Rest on 6th June 2024 (D-Day+80).
We had lunch.
My neighbour had mushroom stroganoff, I had sausage and colcannon.
Food was great. No stingy servings. We both agreed food was tasty and substantial. Well presented but not fancy.
Staff were attentive but not annoying.
Unfortunately, I was driving so couldn't drink the Theakston's XB, so I had to drink Heineken 0.0, which, to be honest, was fine.
To conclude, pub/restaurant in a great rural location, but 2 mins from Sainsbury's. Definitely an establishment with character. My friend described it as "quirky". Food not fancy but tasty and filling.
Other clientele, frequenting the pub, when we were there, were of a similar demographic. That is, no yobs, etc.
Of course, being a grumpy old git, I have to find fault in something.
The road leading to the pub REALLY needs the pot-holes filling in.
If you're having to drive at 0.005 mph due to the pot-holes, you're on the right road!
Overall: Thoroughly recommend this...
Read moreStaff were responsive and helpful, however there was only one cask Beer on tap because the other three barrels were awaiting changing and the pipes cleaning out. Thursday evening. There are Two tables in The Lounge Bar where you can eat a meal and have your dog with you. I'm not sure if they were allowed in the restaurant area further round the corner. There are outdoor seating areas at the front and rear by the car park. I'm not certain about disabled access and saw no separate disabled toilets. I did Notice however that from the car park (left hand) entrance door which leads past the gents loos into a very cramped bar and you would not want to take your wheelchair through here... Try the doors đȘ on the right hand side towards the roadside of the building instead: although I did not check level Access. The atmosphere is relaxed and there was no loud music or TVs blaring sports...
