Sharing the review I placed on Trip Advisor. Reading the owners response to the other low scores, I think the owner(s)/managers need to rethink their customer service.
Really looked forward to eating here after reading the reviews. Unfortunately the food and service were sub standard. We ordered the belly pork for £26 and the chicken and leek pie for £20. I thought both were a little bit on the way expensive side, but had it been good, we would have happily paid. The belly pork meat was dry, the skin on top not cooked enough to be edible. The mange-tout was undercooked. If this was supposed to be al dente, it was not. The chicken pie was full of chicken, which ordinarily would be welcome. As this was also incredibly dry and without sauce, it wasn't something that could be easily chewed with a tiny pot of gravy. I can only assume the better reviews are those who live locally and dine there regularly. Remaining polite for the sake of village solidarity. That, or they're happy to pay because of the area. Which isn't Harrogate. We left more than half of the food on both plates. When this was raised with staff, it was said it was unexpectedly busy, which is why is wasn't to the normal standard. The attitude changed when we were only prepared to pay for half of the food bill. They attempted to only remove the cheapest meal, which we disagreed with. Paying only half of both meals. We were then told to finish our drinks and get out. Given we'd already sat and enjoyed three drinks and had legitimate complaints was unacceptable. When 1-3 Restaurants and Pubs are closing, they'll be lucky to be here in the next 2 years. Unless the locals run a go fund me page. Anyone can Google a wine off their list. The Shiraz has 220% mark up. That'll only keep you going so long. Check out the picture and decide...
Read moreUnable to attend due to covid pandemic. After paying my deposit prior to the pandemic starting we were looking forward to our visit to the hotel and was hoping to plan further longer trips in the future. However, our plans were scuppered by the lockdown. Upon sending emails to the hotel, they failed on numerous occasions to respond. I would have been delighted had they responded with suggestions for how the booking could be honoured by them in the future. Nothing was forthcoming from them. Eventually I did get a response, which then became clear they had no intention of repaying my deposit. This being in direct conflict with the agreement I had agreed to in their terms and conditions. This was pointed out to them and if they bothered to respond it was a management decision. Initially no emails were ever signed off with a named contact, so we never knew who we were dealing with. Such was their atrocious treatment of us that we decided we just wouldn't stay here in the future. Trading standards were informed of the events practiced by the hotel, and a credit card dispute raised. It then took the hotel 7 days to refund my account, after I had advised that I was going to pursue a case in the small claims court against them if payment was not received in my account within the seven days. Very unprofessional conduct by the hotel, which has definitely cost them future bookings by us. I am unsure what course of action is being taken for their breach of contract attempt. If this is how they treat prospective clients my advice is...
Read moreThis review should’ve received more stars, but unfortunately we were placed in a room directly above the kitchens and the noise was not acceptable We had to listen to drum and base music all evening, until the kitchen closed just after 10pm. On the first evening, going down to the dining room (bar) the gentleman behind the bar, asked if everything was okay! I answered apart from the noise of the kitchen – – he made light in his reply, making a joke. The second evening it was even louder. We spoke to a female member of staff on the third morning and she said she would speak to the staff and the music was lower that evening, although you could still hear the activity of a busy working kitchen? I got the impression that staff were well aware of this. It was a shame because the staff and the food are 2nd to none, the room had nowhere to sit, no bed heads on the beds, no shaver point and for £130 per night I would expect better. the location of the hotel is good but parking is restricted it shows on Google Maps that parking is complimentary. This is not the case the parking is public parking. Despite raising these concerns about the noise and the parking I was never offered any compensation. I would suggest to the White Hart, that they address the noise in room five and edit the information on Google Maps. There is no area to sit and relax which is a real minus when you stay for...
