Today was my first time at the Wilbraham Arms since its new tenant. Unfortunately it will also be my last. We arrived at our booked time off 12 noon, and waited for it to open, therefore being the first people to enter save for the staff. We sat at a table that was sticky and didn't seem to have been cleaned properly from the day before. We asked twice if it could be wiped. By the time we left it still hadn't been cleaned. We ordered our drinks, one of which was a coke (normal). The drinks came and the coke was infact diet Pepsi. When asking for it to be changed we were informed they don't have any coke or Pepsi (normal), only diet. You would think it's reasonable to assume they would have informed us of this when taking our order?? Apparently not. A few more people entered and were seated while we gave our food order. Said people ordered their food. Said people were served their food. We still waited. After waiting half an hour I approached the bar to ask when our food would be ready. I was informed its on the way. Apparently our food was being cooked from fresh and it was a large order - 5, just mains, not exactly large. As for being cooked fresh, I should hope it was. Didn't particularly fancy leftovers from the day before or is that asking too much? Also, did they not cook the other customers food from fresh if they were served before us? When our food arrived we asked for another couple of drinks. These didn't arrive until we had nearly finished our meal and again we had to go to the bar to ask where they were to which we were informed by the staff member he would be doing them when he had finished looking at the till?? How long had he been looking at the till we wondered?? We chose not to bother with pudding as we feared it may not arrive till we were mere skin and bone. Therefore we paid and left (after checking the bill, which included a £1 charge for lime cordial on top of the half pint of lager it went in, which was already over £2). All of these things could reasonably be assumed to be unavoidable in certain circumstances, and I wouldn't usually write such a negative review for something like this had it not been for the fact that not once did we get an apology for the incorrect drinks order, the food delay, the next delay for the second drinks or the general assumption from the staff that this sort of service should be acceptable. And to top it off with charging £1 for lime cordial (bearing in mind you can buy a whole bottle for less than that) is outrageous. Needless to say, goodbye the Wilbraham Arms!! Good luck keeping customers with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe booked for a Christmas Day meal this year after many years of contemplating dining out. Sorry to say it was a huge disappointment and everyone in our party had the same experience.
The table preparation left a lot to be desired and other than a cracker looked no different from any other day. I could go into the details for each course in turn, which was mixed at best, but overall it wouldnāt be positive feedback. The main course warrants more of a mention. The picture is an example of what everyone was presented with. People can make their own mind up how theyād feel about being presented with a plate like this on Christmas Day. The turkey was ok but the rest was served in small portions. A single piece of carrot & parsnip, a few sprouts, 3 small roast potatoes and a single pig in blanket and a single small stuffing ball. All combined the vegetables and ātrimmingsā barely filled half the plate and to top it all off the food was served lukewarm on barely warm plates and the presentation left a lot to be desired. The picture shows a plate swimming in (watery) gravy while another person barely got any at all. Nobody in our group enjoyed their main course which ultimately is what the Christmas meal is all about. At the end nobody came round to offer the mince pies and coffee that was included on the menu but by then weād all had enough and just wanted to leave. To round off our experience when we came to pay we were overcharged by Ā£40 for drinks that we hadnāt had. I only realised this after paying because I asked for a till receipt. This was corrected when I brought it to their attention but it shouldnāt have happened anyway when people had to give their table number to order drinks from the bar.
We ate at the Wilbraham last December as part of a large group of 90 for a Christmas Party and the experience then was much better than yesterday. Nice food, decent portions and nicely presented. What we experienced yesterday was nothing like last time hence the overall rating Iāve given. Including drinks the meal cost more than Ā£500 which I sadly consider to be a waste of money. Suffice to say this was the first and the last time we will eat at the Wilbraham on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent recently for Sunday lunch, and the food was lovely. The service however... We were seated at 3pm, and ordered about 10 minutes later. Within this time 3 different members of staff came over to check what we were actually doing, were we eating, did we have menus. Once we had been served our mains (1 of which was the wrong dish initially which was changed) it was 40 minutes after we finished eating before we could get someone to clear plates and bring dessert menus. We had been in over 2hrs at this point and also had to go to the bar to get drinks where 3 members of waiting staff were playing on their phones and drinking cokes. When we finally ordered dessert, they brought the first 2 before then telling us that one of them was no longer available, then proceeding to bring the remaining few 1 at a time so we ate separately. I'll note the restaurant was not busy in the slightest, as a 3pm table we were the only ones sat in the conservatory and the rest of the pub was quiet. We commented to one waitress who it was clear was doing all the work for the other 3 staff and covering up their...
