Booked food for 19.30 on Sunday May 7th. There was Pop Bingo going on. Had to ask a waitress where we should sit as we were being totally ignored by all the staff. We were eventually seated at a table, ordered drinks and then food. At about 20.10 we saw food being served to another couple who had come in after us, so I asked the waitress about our order. "They are cooking it now" she said, and hurried into the kitchen. Moments later, a chef came out and told us that the kitchen was closed, and that we we could not have our meal. She had asked the chef to stay on but he finished at 8pm. When I said to her that she herself was a chef (at least dressed in chef's attire) she garbled something about not normally being "back there" whatever that meant.. So no food for us after travelling all day. We asked to speak to the manager, his name is Greg. However Greg was busy hosting the "Pop Bingo" so it was left to the staff to offer us compensation by way of a £15 voucher and write off our couple of drinks. Nevertheless we still said that we would have breakfast there, you know, second chance and all that. We were offered a 20% voucher for this and we were told that they would look forward to seeing us. About 5 minutes later we were then told that they were not actually open for breakfast. My fiance approached Greg (remember him) who was still hosting his Pop Bingo. Asking if he knew about what had happened. His reply was "Yeah," asked if we going to get an apology of any sort, the answer was "Yeah, sorry about that." Shoddy doesn't cover it, this place could be so good, but with Greg in charge, I doubt it. By the way the prizes for Pop Bingo were £50 vouchers to spend in the Woolpack, which is pretty useless unless you are local, because I'm pretty sure you will not return...

Bar staff were very friendly. Length of time waiting for food was over an hour. The restaurant was very quiet but the time it took for our food to be served was very slow. We had to ask where the food was no-one came to apologise or advise there was a delay. When the scampi and chips arrived the chips were dark brown and soggy, obvious to anyone they had already been cooked then cooked again, the scampi was dark brown in colour and even going black on places of the batter, it was barely edible the whole meal was lukewarm. When mentioned to the waitress she actually put her hand onto the food to feel how hot it was! My husband's sausage and mash was lukewarm too. Given the amount of time we had to wait we would have expected the food to have been fresh and hot. This is the second time in as many visits at this time of day on a Saturday that this has been an issue. Given the fact that it was a quiet late afternoon and no apparent reason for the delay or being advised of the delay when ordering food I expected better. It is highly unlikely that we will visit this establishment again. We used to go frequently at lunchtime on Fridays although we stopped due to poor service. Understandably Friday lunchtimes are busy but to only have 3 front of house staff including bar staff in a full restaurant meant that tables were not cleared on time and exceptionally long delays on kitchen times usually over an hour for even just a wrap meant we stopped visiting and changed to late afternoons on a Saturday when it is a very quiet time, unfortunately we find the service is no better and the quality of...

Went here to say thank you to our father in law for helping us out so though we would treat him to a steak and this place was recommended by friends especially for steak which is what my father in law likes to have. Anyway when we arrived there was no sirloin at all so only had rump steaks which took a few dishes off the menu. We managed to find a surf and turf upgraded to a bigger steak and a mega mix grill also upgraded to a bigger steak and a burger and the kids had kids meals which were fine. Anyway I had to send my steak back as it was well done and I ordered medium rare and when it got back I had finished everything else on my plate and then the steak that come back was basically gristle and I could not eat it my father in law had the surf and turf and said his steak was cold and he could not eat it and did not enjoy it. I personally have never sent a meal back but when paying for a meal then upgrading I would not have enjoyed a well done steak as it has a completely different taste to a medium rare so I had to send it back then got served a lump of gristle not a steak. I didn’t hang around for pudding was just so embarrassed we had taken my father in law out and had so many issues. I didn’t even complain to the bar staff as just wanted to get out of there but all I can say is think twice before you go there as it looks like the kitchen staff are not great as was not even that busy.

The food when it came out 90 mins after ordering was vile!! Just to put context to this review….we came into a really busy Friday night. We were found a table and told that the food could take up to an hour which we said was ok. We had a round of drinks and ordered food quickly on the app (and left a tip In advance). We ordered mains, sides (to arrive before the mains) and drinks. 30 mins later our app drinks arrived. We waited 70 mins then I went to the bar to se where our starters were. Was told that we would need to wait at least another 10 mins (staff was aplologetic). I was then asked I wanted to speak to the manager which I did (how can you wait 70 mins for garlic bread and onion rings????). The manager was very apologetic, offered a full refund on the food. I declined and agreed a 50% reduction. When the food came out it was cold, the mains were even worse!! The ‘sizzling’ plate was cold, the food cold and chicken tikka inedible (not cooked I the middle). I made the manager aware upon leaving. I noted that other tables came in after us and were served before us. It was the worst chain pub I’ve ever eaten in ever. The chef should be ashamed of sending out the slop he did. If I get food poisoning then I know where the blame lies.

I visited the other week with my partner. I had a mixed grill and asked for it to be cooked medium rare which it came out overcooked and burnt. The runner did not do a check back and the pub was busy so I had to leave my steak as I didn't want to put more pressure on the staff. Overall though it is a good pub and plenty of drink offers and good prices. Food needs attending and better customer service.
