Read moreBooked food for 19.30 on Sunday May 7th. There was Pop Bingo going on. Had to ask a waitress where we should sit as we were being totally ignored by all the staff. We were eventually seated at a table, ordered drinks and then food. At about 20.10 we saw food being served to another couple who had come in after us, so I asked the waitress about our order. "They are cooking it now" she said, and hurried into the kitchen. Moments later, a chef came out and told us that the kitchen was closed, and that we we could not have our meal. She had asked the chef to stay on but he finished at 8pm. When I said to her that she herself was a chef (at least dressed in chef's attire) she garbled something about not normally being "back there" whatever that meant.. So no food for us after travelling all day. We asked to speak to the manager, his name is Greg. However Greg was busy hosting the "Pop Bingo" so it was left to the staff to offer us compensation by way of a £15 voucher and write off our couple of drinks. Nevertheless we still said that we would have breakfast there, you know, second chance and all that. We were offered a 20% voucher for this and we were told that they would look forward to seeing us. About 5 minutes later we were then told that they were not actually open for breakfast. My fiance approached Greg (remember him) who was still hosting his Pop Bingo. Asking if he knew about what had happened. His reply was "Yeah," asked if we going to get an apology of any sort, the answer was "Yeah, sorry about that." Shoddy doesn't cover it, this place could be so good, but with Greg in charge, I doubt it. By the way the prizes for Pop Bingo were £50 vouchers to spend in the Woolpack, which is pretty useless unless you are local, because I'm pretty sure you will not return...
Read moreBar staff were very friendly. Length of time waiting for food was over an hour. The restaurant was very quiet but the time it took for our food to be served was very slow. We had to ask where the food was no-one came to apologise or advise there was a delay. When the scampi and chips arrived the chips were dark brown and soggy, obvious to anyone they had already been cooked then cooked again, the scampi was dark brown in colour and even going black on places of the batter, it was barely edible the whole meal was lukewarm. When mentioned to the waitress she actually put her hand onto the food to feel how hot it was! My husband's sausage and mash was lukewarm too. Given the amount of time we had to wait we would have expected the food to have been fresh and hot. This is the second time in as many visits at this time of day on a Saturday that this has been an issue. Given the fact that it was a quiet late afternoon and no apparent reason for the delay or being advised of the delay when ordering food I expected better. It is highly unlikely that we will visit this establishment again. We used to go frequently at lunchtime on Fridays although we stopped due to poor service. Understandably Friday lunchtimes are busy but to only have 3 front of house staff including bar staff in a full restaurant meant that tables were not cleared on time and exceptionally long delays on kitchen times usually over an hour for even just a wrap meant we stopped visiting and changed to late afternoons on a Saturday when it is a very quiet time, unfortunately we find the service is no better and the quality of...
