We visited TJ's Surf Cafe on a slightly windswept, overcast Saturday and decided to sit on the terrace. Despite the weather, the location offered a charming atmosphere with a beautiful view. We arrived just as the kitchen staff was transitioning between breakfast and lunch, which gave us time to enjoy a couple of coffees and later a pint while we waited for the kitchen to reopen.

Our server was fantastic—enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and eager to share the specials with us. We were originally set on what we wanted, but after hearing about the specials, we couldn't resist changing our order. I opted for the Marcel new potatoes, which were served with olives and chili. The dish was simply delicious, with the flavors perfectly complementing each other. My partner chose the sea bass with pesto, accompanied by a couple of lemoncello spritzes. The sea bass was cooked to perfection, and the drink was a refreshing pairing.

Just as our food arrived, the sun came out and the wind dropped, creating a perfect setting for our meal. We spent a fantastic hour dining and enjoying the ambiance. The experience was so pleasant that we could have easily stayed longer, but with other eager diners waiting for a table, we decided it was only fair to give them a chance to enjoy the excellent fare as well.

If you find yourself in Polzeath, spending a couple of hours on TJ’s terrace is a must. The combination of good food, friendly service, and a relaxing atmosphere makes it a spot worth visiting.

Well surprised with today's lunchtime visit TJ's. Been there a few times now and often busy but food and service not bad. Today we popped in for lunch about 1.30pm and as we sat down we were asked if we wanted drinks because they weren't serving food as they had too many orders on!

No apology, no further explanation or suggestion that we come back later, just a look that said we were an inconvenience. The restaurant was half empty and most people appeared to have their food. Four people who followed us in received similar treatment. Hope this was just a one off but really disappointing.

The silver lining in this cloud was that we went on walkabout and found the wonderful Tube Station - cheerful service (and great coffee too) - a perfect relaxed lunchtime experience...and now, our Polzeath cafe of choice.

Follow up... New years day....Oh dear, more of the same. Three months on and nothing seems to have changed. Giving the cafe another chance and visiting with a couple of friends, we were met with exactly the same greeting of 'we are not taking orders because we are too busy'! We asked if we could wait as we only wanted drinks but just got a stare - no asking us to take a seat or politeness of any kind. The staff were clearly stressed.

It clearly is a management issue and such a shame. Once is bad enough but twice is a...

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at TJ's Surf Cafe during my recent visit. The beachside location created a perfect ambiance, overlooking the stunning Cornish beach where people were enjoying body surfing and surfing. The atmosphere was captivating, and the staff were incredibly friendly, enhancing the overall welcoming vibe of the place.

My family and I were all delighted with the food. While the kids enjoyed a delicious pizza, I had the pleasure of indulging in the most delectable and juicy burger I've had in a long time. The flavors were exceptional and left me craving for more.

TJ's Surf Cafe truly stands out not only for its mouthwatering food but also for the overall experience it offers. It's a place where you can savor a delightful meal while immersing yourself in the beauty of the surroundings. I can't recommend this place enough for anyone seeking a memorable beachside dining experience. It's a...

I’ve been coming to TJ’s since 2017, and it never disappoints! The food is consistently great, and I love the location on the beach and relaxed atmosphere here. TJ’s is really good value - the food portions are excellent for the money. I really recommend their loaded sweet potato fries and paninis. It’s also a great spot for a hearty breakfast and delicious coffee. The team at TJ’s are helpful and friendly, though service can sometimes be a little slow as there is often minimal staff. The café is very dog friendly and even offers sausages for dogs on the menu! It’s also great for a post-surf feed, but note that no wet wetsuits are allowed inside the café. Plenty of outdoor seating on the terrace, though! Can’t wait to come back again soon 😇

I ordered nachos, and while the top layer looked fine, it turned out that almost half the bowl was hidden crumbs and tiny broken pieces — clearly not what you'd expect when ordering nachos at a restaurant. It felt intentional, as if they were trying to disguise it. We mentioned it politely to the receptionist at the end, expecting some kind of gesture or at least not to be charged for something so poorly served. Instead, we were still charged and the waitress said -"thanks for letting us know" I took a photo because it was honestly that bad. This felt dishonest and left us feeling ripped off. I would not recommend this place based on our experience.
