Five Stars and a Wee Dram of Gratitude
There are meals you eat, and then there are meals you remember—the kind that stick with you longer than your New Year’s resolutions. Our evening at The White Horse firmly falls into the latter category. We came hungry, we left full, and somewhere in between, we found ourselves genuinely moved. Who knew dinner could be a spiritual experience wrapped in tempura?
Let’s start with the food: We sampled what can only be described as a heroic amount of the menu. Oysters so fresh they could’ve whispered insults in Gaelic. Burrata tomato salad that was basically summer on a plate. Lobster tempura that made us question every other fried thing we’ve ever eaten. And yes, we shamelessly tried all the desserts—and we regret nothing (except not ordering seconds).
But what truly elevated the night from fantastic to unforgettable was Hubert, the manager-slash-storyteller-slash-gallant host. Hubert didn’t just manage the room; he orchestrated it like a maestro—graceful, warm, and somehow managing to make each guest feel like they were the most important person in the building. Somewhere between courses, Hubert shared a personal story that left a quiet moment at our table—a rare pause, not from food coma, but from feeling something real. That kind of openness? Rare. Brave. And deeply appreciated.
So if you’re reading this wondering whether to book a table at The White Horse, stop thinking and start dialing. Bring an appetite, a sense of humor, and maybe a tissue—just in case Hubert’s stories hit you right in the feelings like they did us.
Cheers to great food, great company, and a manager who reminded us that hospitality is an art—and Hubert’s painting...
Read moreWell what can I say the food was absolutely great from the dinner in the evening to the breakfast in the morning and I am a very picky eater, the food was five star. Also there was free parking and plenty of it and free Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi wasn't that great in our room but most people have Wi-Fi on their phones anyway. The staff were very friendly. And for the price with breakfast included with the room was very good, the only problem we had was the shower head and the water going everywhere. Also free tea and coffee in the room which was great to have. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner. When we go back to see the two truck convention again my son and myself shall be staying there. First night we stayed at another hotel but I did not like it at all that's why we moved to the White horse, I'm glad we did.well what can I say, we went again and how things changed. First night we stayed in and eat, no chicken, no fish or lamb just thin slice of gammon and steak which I wanted middle to well done it was so dry and in pieces like left overs from someones plate, my son wanted medium done it was rare.. breakfast we were told 8 to 10 but it was 7 to 9 which seems to stop a bit early if you ask me. Asked for more decaffeinated coffee next day got 2 decaf teas and 5 milk how things have gone done hill. The shower was fixed though and breakfast when we got it on the second morning was great. Also one son had a pint of lemonade which was out of a big bottle but cost I'm sure he said £4.so next year will be going elsewhere. Kitchen times are a bit ridiculous shutting at 9 in the morning and...
Read moreStayed here for one night and would highly recommend. The staff are really friendly and accommodating. The room was warm but not hot. Breakfast was also good.
The reason for the score is
The mattress felt like a stiff foam and was more worn on the left so I kept rolling that way in my sleep
1 pillow was feather and they were poking me.
Towel was a little on the small and thin side
The room was a little on the dim side, made better with the bedside lamps but the bathroom was very dim.
TV slightly a bit small but that's just preference.
Choice of larger wasn't great as it's just stuff like Carling, Stella and Cors light on draught but again that's a taste thing.
Overall though, I would recommend and if the bed she light was improved it would be rated a 4.5. The friendliness of the staff would make me want to go back again and for the price it...
