My sister and I booked a table for Mother’s Day as a treat for our mum as we’d both been on separate occasions and loved it so thought we’d show Mum what’s it all about.. really wish we hadn’t. The service was probably the worst I’ve ever experienced when dining out. Staff were no where to be seen or were sat down eating and talking to one another (the restaurant is quite large and hard to get someone’s attention when they are on the opposite ends side of it) and we had to ask for the prosecco that was included in the Mother’s Day set menu. It was so quiet considering it was Mother’s Day and there was no atmosphere whatsoever. Our food was disappointing. Very over priced for the quality, lasagne was extremely bizarre tasting (carrot and mince meat with a layer of pasta on top) and was not served with anything, just a piece of lasagne on a plate which at 11.25 I find quite steep. The Brie starter was floating in grease. We did complain and the waitress said she would speak to the manager, she then bought us our bill without us having the desserts from the set menu, we explained we hadn’t had them and she apologised and took the bill away so we could order them and out of a choice of sticky toffee pudding and brownie they had run out of sticky toffee pudding so we had a vast choice of brownie or brownie. We did receive a discount of 25% off our bill for the issues with the mains but I still feel so frustrated that our meal was ruined by rubbish food and service. Such a shame but we definitely...
Read moreNot been open long, but thought we'd try it before going to see a film (T2 Trainspotting at the new Odeon in Northwich). I had the "Garlic Prawns" to start. I was a little underwhelmed. A large plate, with a small piece of bread on it (less than half the size of the plate), and the bread was covered in a very lemony butter-type sauce that has some red chilli chopped up in it. Not very garlicky at all, and if anything, just too lemony! Not particularly hot (temperature-wise) either. My wife had mussels to start, which were OK. For my main, I had a spicy calzone pizza, which wasn't too bad, but just "standard fare". I thought the plastic tray that the pizza came on looked a bit tired (already) due to all the sharp knives that have been used on it. Maybe a more robust plate should be used. My wife had the ribs for her main course. She thought they were fine - well-cooked, but again fairly "standard". The venue is OK, but looks like it has been rushed in places - untidy grouting on the tiled floor, and the tiles in the gents toilet just looked "dirty" which I'm sure they weren't, but the grouting and colours of the tiles just make it look that way.
Some of the staff were obviously new, so maybe some of the faults are attributable to that fact.
Overall, we'd visit again, but would probably choose...
Read moreWe've eaten here twice now, and both times had a pleasant experience overall, but not without some issues along the way. The first time around was some months ago, not long after opening and teething problems were evident; the lighting wasn't right, the timing between courses was off, and the service wasn't quite as attentive as you might hope. The food was largely very nice though, excepting the prawn spaghetti which was inedibly greasy and had to be sent back.
Fast forward to last night and the ambiance is now spot on, the timings were better (we forgave slightly slow service given how surprisingly busy it was for a Sunday evening), and the service has improved (though they still fall into that trap most restaurants have where staff miraculously vanish when you've had the bill and actually want to pay...). Once again most of the food was wonderful, though they left the lasagne in the oven too long and burned it top and bottom, which is a shame given how nice the middle of it was!
I suspect we'll be back because they always deal with any food issues you raise and as I say we've had two overall pleasant evenings out in a row now, but be aware that this is sometimes a bit rough around the edges so it's not for you if perfection is...
