I really fancied a Wimpy today. It has been many years since having the opportunity to walk into a branch. Unfortunately I didn't get an opportunity to seat due to a rude reception today. As you enter the store the menu is behind the door. I was asked if I was eating in or taking out, having taken a glance around an seeing there was plenty of seating available I politely replied that I'd like to eat in.
I'm very said to say this is where the experience takes a turn and I'll let you make your own judgements. I want to point out that I'm a solo diner on this occasion and maybe that's why I hope for the best when entering a dining establishment at this time.
So, I pull the door slightly to get a better look at the menu. At which point I hear "table for one then" and the pitch of the tone tells me that somethings about to happen. Next thing, and it's not always what is said it's the way it is delivered, "can you sanitise your hands". I believe this was cause I'd had the audacity to touch the door handle.
Before I had a chance to try and reply I could feel myself thinking "you wouldn't speak to a couple/group like that". I have no doubt my out of town accent didn't help. I decided to leave it and now wonder when I might next get a chance to experience Wimpy's culinary delights.
Please, please, please, if you must insist on instructing or guiding your patrons in any way, do it politely. I'm not going to be spoken to like that when I'm trying to spend money with an establishment.
Looking at all the positive reviews massively adds to the disappointment. It's not right. I'm a polite person. Is trying to order food whilst being by myself such a crime?
I'm sorry I have to write such a review, however really want my...

Maybe we were just unlucky, but not a great experience. Decided to give our business to Wimpy in Swanage.
At the entrance we were told to put on our masks. Fair enough, though it was completely empty. We were asked for contact details ( Covid I assume ), but only one of us was, which was odd. Our personal details were hand written into a book. Not very secure from a Data Protection point of view. The book contents were visible to me and left unattended.
Shown to a table by the waitress who DID wear her face mask all the time. Unlike the 'chef' who's was off his nose, all the time. And the 'manager'(?) who appeared to do very little but pace up and down the restaurant and did not wear one most of the time. This was really disconcerting and probably the worst aspect of our visit.
The food was ok - just ok. It looked rather sad. It had no soul. The cutlery was provided in a pile, not really given to us.
About two thirds of the way through our lone meal, staff started stacking chairs on tables. It was over an hour before the official closing time, but the message was clear. We were not that important - closing up was.
Odd to be given a hand written bill.
2 stars for the waitress who did most of the work. 1 for the others.
A sad and depressing visit.
Won't be back. No wonder it's always nearly...
Read moreWell we went for nostalgia because we used to have so many good Wimpy's back in the day. Well food arrived after ordering it was horrid to eat no taste reheated frozen ingredients made my partner feel ill later that day. Kids meal was meant to be of a decent size same with our meals. Nothing like advertised or described. Very expensive for the rubbish served. Place was on the dirty side. Even waiting outside for a table to be ready when we where asked to seat everything felt sticky and dirty. Cutlery was dirty when brought to the table.
The whole experience was a nightmare. Staff where to quick and kind of rude to get you in and out . Upon paying absolutely no manners please or thank yous from the cashier.
I do not recommend this place another shame for Swanage and a waste of space. Guess the town business owners know they are in for a quick buck because they think no one will return. WRONG WAY GOING ABOUT THINGS as happy customers return and give more business back.
VERY...
