Well, what can I say about the Argee Bhajee? My partner and I order from here regularly. Not because the food is anything special, as it's not, if anything it is decidedly average, the poppadums are always stale, the curry's contain very little meat, and the food is overpriced. But, by nature we are beings of habit aren't we, and we always tend to order from there simply because we know the menu, the prices and what we are going to get. So, earlier this evening we decided to order an Indian takeaway, did so, our order coming to exactly £15 which is the minimum order for free delivery, and sat back looking forward to the arrival of our food. So, you can imagine our surprise when a few minutes later we got a call from them saying that our order had gone up from £15 to £17. When we asked why they said it was because our house was over 3.5 miles away. Okay, firstly, it is only 2.6 miles away, secondly, in all the times we have ordered from there they have never charged this before, and finally they did not mention this when we first made the order. We explained that we did not have the odd two pounds on us, and that in order to get it we would need to walk to the nearest shop which was ten minutes away, late on a winter evening, in the pouring rain and freezing cold, get a tenner out of the cash machine, buy something that we don't want or need to get the change and come back again. They're reply to this was that they needed to pay the driver. Forgive me, but shouldn't the argee bhajee be paying the drivers wages, not the customer? So, we asked to speak to the manager but they told us we couldn't as he was in Bangladesh. Er, okay. So we asked to speak to whoever was in charge and a man came onto the phone. We told him that we did not have the odd two pounds and were not happy about this and had a good mind to leave them a bad review. To our utter incredulity, he laughed down the phone, and mocked and dared us to, saying, 'oh, you're going to inform social media are you? Go on then love'. Well that was the end of that conversation, and hence you are reading this review. We instantly called up one of their competitors just 0.2 miles down the road and made the identical order. It came to £13, arrived much quicker than any order we have ever made from the Argee Bhajee, the curry had double the amount of meat in and the poppadums, of which we ordered 2 and they gave us 8, were fresh and crispy, unlike the aforementioned one's from Argee Bhajee that taste like they have been used as coasters for a week. Safe to say, we will never, ever order from them again. They have lost two regular customers and £15 because they had the audacity to try and squeeze a couple of extra quid out of us. Bravo...
Read moreWe have ordered food from here on multiple occasions and it has been great service up until our last order. We tried ordering through Just Eat, but the order was unsuccessful so we decided to do it through the website. We received confirmation it has gone through and had an order number. An hour and a half later there was no sign of our food so we called the restaurant. They told us the order hadn’t shown up on their end but promised to get it cooked and delivered asap. Another hour passed and still no food so we rang again and were told it was on it’s way. Bearing in mind we are only ten minutes drive away we were very hungry and fed up. We asked to speak to the manager but were told we should call back the next day to discuss the matter with them. The order finally arrived just before 10pm which was two and a half hours after we originally ordered it. We felt very let down by the whole experience and just wanted to get to bed. The next day we called up and asked to speak to a manager, we left our number and were told we would get a call back. We are still waiting. All in all, we are very disappointed with...
Read moreHaving found via Tastecard Directory our expectations were perhaps low largely due to the name which sort of suggests a dated 'curry house'. Although quite a small restaurant décor was a pleasant surprise, very modern and clean and the staff exceptionally friendly. Things only got better with what I feel was the best curry we have had for years. The cuisine is pleasantly different from the usual and flavours were exceptional and we felt relatively healthy as was no evidence of the clarified butter and oil often seen on food at other Indian restaurants. Portion sizes were decent and the service continued to be A1. Wine and drinks were very very reasonable (£12 for a very presentable housewine)and the only problem is that it is nearly 150 miles from where we live otherwise we would be regulars!! Well done Argee Bhajee. ..... make sure you...
