The format of the review mandates one star which is a lie. This would be zero if I could. This was honestly the worst curry I have ever had.
It began with the phonecall in which we struggled to book a table for four. The lady was trying to give us a table for 5pm, when it was already 7:20pm. This is a physical impossibility. 0/10
Being on holiday, we decided to take the risk and gamble on the restaurant as the reviews were favourable - featuring in the top ten Indian places in Exeter. We stopped at the tescos to buy drinks.
On arrival at the restaurant we were ignored by a staff member who was on the phone. We were eventually taken to a table where there was insufficient cutlery. Almost as soon as we sat, the manager came out from the back to tell us we could not have our drinks. This is fine, but the manner of which was needlessly aggressive. I tried the cider they had on tap - named 'cider' apparently. This was a mediocre £4.95 glass of mostly flat apple squash.
We decided to start, as most do, with a poppadom each. They confirmed four, then moments later delivered three. We were charged £2.40 for tiny sauces which were almost entirely emptied by a single dip. We did not ask for these but when we asked for the tiny pots to be refilled, we were charged again.
The menu was fairly laid out - we decided to take a tandoori mixed grill main as a shared started between four - priced at £15.95 we assumed this would be fairly large and more than enough between us. We were unfortunately, entirely mistaken. This serving would barely have been enough for one person. The 'king' prawns we were promised were in fact one tiny prawn, one single, sad, sheek kebab, a few pieces of chicken and apparently some lamb. We found ourselves dissecting individual pieces of meat to ensure we all got some. The paneer however small, was quite nice.
As negative as this all sounds already, the mains are where things really went off the rails.
Although the naan breads were quite nice - the mains were tasteless. I had a madras and my companion had a jalfrezi - aside from more veg in the Jalfrezi, these curries were identical. Neither were spicy, fairly tasteless along with watery, flavourless chicken. The 'chilli chips' looked as though someone had ordered a takeaway at 3am the previous morning, left some, then microwaved them with some spice powder for us. They were dry, under-seasoned and just altogether sad. As for the rice - this could be a whole story in itself. Have you ever had a single dish which was at the same time both over AND undercooked? I have. It was wretched.
I say the naans were quite nice. I actually think they were just the least disappointing parts of a terrible meal, which seems to make them stand out.
We all eat on strict diets and decided to have a rare treat - this was an absolute waste of a treat meal. We left the majority of our disappointing meals and cannot now even taste that we have had a curry. We were still at the table an hour ago but have rushed onto google to leave a review in the hopes they can't do to someone else what they've done to us. This would be such an injustice.
We could tell that the staff thought something was wrong with the meal as they kept asking how things were. They struggled to deal with 'four poppadoms' so we thought it pointless to try to describe. It was too late to fix anyway.
As we were getting up to leave the manager charged out from the back. He queried what the problem was as we had left so much food. We told him that the food was tasteless and lacked spice. He said;
"We don't make it hot"
A madras. In the menu "Madras - hot". I've never heard such nonsense in my life.
Then the final insult was the bill. For four people to each have a bowl full of sadness, a side of pain and a portion of misery to share - £97.55. I couldn't believe it.
Honestly, if it hadn't been so expensive i'd have stuck my fingers down my throat and gone and started again somewhere else.
In summary - avoid, even if free and starving to death. I would rather eat the weeds from the...
Read moreAVOID AVOID AVOID. Worst experience of my life. Not even worth 0 stars This was my first time trying this resturant after recommendation from friends. I placed my order online, confirmation email stating collection time. Went to collect at confirmed time only to find out they hadn't even processed my order mistake number 1. I then had to wait a further 45 minutes in the restaurant for my food. The lady at the till was OK but did not provide any form of customer service while I waited. Once the food arrived I asked for a discount as I had to wait for over an hour for my food, this was only 20% which is terrible. I asked for Poppadoms to be included in the order to which to waiter confirmed 5 had been put in the bag. I paid the bill but was not offered a further apology bad customer service. I the. went on my way. Got home to discover there were no Poppadoms in the bag, I was given a korma instead of a pasanda and the veg curry was half full and consisted of 2 onions and 2 pieces of pepper and the nan bread was missing from that meal. I called the restaurant to advise, the guy who answered the phone was the most helpful and customer focused individual I've spoken to all night. He offered to replqce the whole order and issue a free refund and deliver the food to us and collect the incorrect order. However this had to be confirmed by the manager. Unfortunately the manager did not agree I spoke to him and he was rude and aggressive and was shouting down the phone at me saying the order was right and that he knew what I ordered so when I asked him what it was I ordered he said can you confirm again. I know the difference between a korma and a damn pasanda and i got a korma when i ordered a pasanda. The owner was Completely arrogant and stated I would have to pay for the food again if I wanted it replaced he had Zero customer service and talked over me and shouted the whole time he should not be in a people facing role. The delivery driver came to my home and collect the incorrect order which I was happy about he was the real hero of the day and knows more about customer service then the owner. You deserve all the praise Mr delivery driver. So after this poor experience I will never order from there again. Unless the delivery driver takes over as boss cos you were fantastic. The other staff were...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at this remarkable Nepalese & Indian restaurant, and I must say that it surpassed all my expectations. From the moment I stepped inside, I was warmly greeted by the friendly staff, creating a welcoming and comfortable ambiance that set the stage for an extraordinary culinary journey.
The menu offered a wide array of mouthwatering Nepalese and Indian dishes, each crafted with precision and bursting with authentic flavours.
The service was impeccable. The attentive waitstaff provided excellent recommendations and ensured that our dining experience was nothing short of perfection.
Now, let's talk about the food itself. Every dish we ordered was a masterpiece. The flavours were robust, and the spices were perfectly balanced, transporting my taste buds to the vibrant streets of Nepal and India. The momo, a traditional Nepalese delicacy, was simply divine, with their delicate dough and savoury fillings. The curries were rich and aromatic, highlighting the depth of Indian culinary traditions. And let's not forget the naan bread, which was soft, pillowy, and served piping hot, a perfect accompaniment to soak up the delectable sauces.
Lastly, the value for money was exceptional. The quality and quantity of the dishes exceeded my expectations, and the prices were reasonable, considering the top-notch ingredients and...
