Was so pleased to return to the Castle in the Air which looked so welcoming and attractive. Unfortunately the experience was spoiled due to an issue with a member of staff. On arrival my husband ordered two drinks which was fine. We sat down and proceeded to drink them. I then got up to order another glass of wine for myself and some food. All appeared to be fine. Then randomly about 15 minutes later the member of staff bought another pint of beer to the table for my husband which we hadn't ordered and did not want. So we joked 'was this a free sample?' To which she replied no it was the beer we had ordered. We replied we didn't order it to which she continued to argue that we had. We didn't order it and we didn't want it and why did she randomly bring it to the table so much later if we had ordered it? This disagreement carried on rather embarrassingly across the pub. The member of staff said 'well you ordered it and you paid for it' again this was wrong as we had set up a tab at the bar to pay on departure. The food arrived at this point, which I have to say was good. The steaks were nice and served to our liking. Sadly, I just felt uncomfortable as the experience had been ruined. We paid for what we had and left after a minor further disagreement about removing the unordered and unwanted pint from the bill. Inappropriate behaviour from this staff member to say the least, and very sad as it would put us...
Read moreWe were out on a walk. A short walk along the England Coast path and Castle in the Air was a good culminating activity 😅 (We did about 10,000 steps that day)
Situated near the Fareham marina, Castle in the Air had a very homey feel and touch to the place. Not a lot of people when we visited but they got busy during that time too as it was the day after Christmas.
We had a pint of guinnes each and just to help with my mood, i tried their salt beef and cheddar toastie. It was AMAZING! I had it with fries and it was perfectly seasoned with flaky sea salt. It was served with a side salad and its beautiful dressing. It was a sourdough toastie that gave a lovely crust and held its contents together -- not soggy at all. The cheddar was melting and thr richness was balanced with pickled red onions. Perfect pair for my guinnes I believe.
Lovely staff, good portion sizes. I look forward to walkies. now I know castle in the air is my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. ❤️

Read moreJust returned having had a meal with some friends. What a great night! The 2 hostesses were absolutely lovely. Really helpful and with a great attitude. It's the first time that we've eaten here and will certainly be back. The 'standard' menu was really good and catered for us all. My wife said 'the best vegi meal (chilli & rice) that she's had for a long time', her words. The deserts were also really good; we were able to get a good discount (ex-servicemen/women) on top of everything. The atmosphere was really good and buzzing. Our only slight concern was the volume of the music (which increased slightly by the end) BUT it was a Saturday night and the pub was busy, so it is understandable to make the place more inviting! Finally, the 2 hostesses wouldn't accept a tip but just said 'please give us reviews!'. This I am very happy to do, please don't change, you make a great team in an old fashioned...
