McDonald's — Restaurant in Fenland District

Never been so insulted as I was today! Took my daughter to drive through as a special treat - her first time out this year. Queue was long but not a problem. Ordered happy meal as usual no problem. Drove to window to pay still no problem. Went to collect food and asked for sauce for the happy meal told we couldn't have any! Said we would have to pay for it. Told this had been policy since first lockdown. I was there two days ago and it wasn't policy then. Explained to cashier it is the free sauce that comes with the happy meal we were told to drive back through to pay for it. Manager then came and screamed out the window that it was policy and we could not have it - we should have ordered it. Asked why no one asked what sauce we wanted with the meal if that was the case? Explained daughter won't eat chips without sauce told that’s tough. Then eventually after we refused to move we were made to pay for the sauce. This is not now nor has it ever been policy and we were disgusted at the attitude of the manager. My daughter ended up in tears and didn't eat her food and ours was cold. I bought 20 chicken nuggets and the cheese share box, I was given 1 ketchup and 2 salsa dips……… How on God’s green earth am I supposed to consume 20 nuggets with only 1 ketchup?!! I mean that is some sort of barely dipping nuggets in ketchup malarkey that I am unprepared to even consider attempting!! Everyone knows for 20 chicken nuggets, you need at least 5 ketchups (or whatever your preferred sauce, I am a ketchup fiend)…. Anyway, I digress, this is a complete insult, I was advised at the collection window I have to purchase more, but I need to go back around the drivethrough again…. To buy ketchup?! If I could give this review zero stars, I would. DO NOT GO, unless you know that you need to pay extra for more than 1 ketchup. Well unless you are some kind of psychopath who doesn’t use any sauce for 20 nuggets, in which case just get them from Tesco’s and eat your dry nuggets at home!!

This 2 star rating is not specific to Wisbech, it applies to Macdonald's outlets in general. When visiting Macdonald's restaurants in person the experience is more often than not painfully slow and the orders are incorrect. The most obvious and main reason for this is the sheer amount of online orders they are trying to cope with. The restaurants are so full of queueing Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat drivers not to mention those people ordering on the app that those people visiting in person are secondary and have to wait a long time. It doesn't have to be like this, however I have yet to visit a Macdonald's restaurant that is properly and efficiently set up for this level of ordering. Currently they are a victim of their own greed. They could be referred to as a Burger Restaurant or a Takeaway but FAST Food they are not and have not been for...
