Booked online for dinner as we were travelling down on the Friday evening, and would rather eat in the hotel after s long day of getting there
Sadly when we arrived we were informed of the restaurant being closed, if I was aware of this earlier I would have made the journey out to go somewhere else We were still able to eat in the bar area, but it was busy, our first table seats were very high, not comfortable for eating we did move to a more practical table once others had left.
Took a while to get menus To the point where we were just about to leave and go elsewhere
Ordered 2 soft drinks, 1 with ice one without. Both came with ice
Starter sharing nachos, were really nice, could have done with being bigger
Were asked if we required more drinks when main came which was nice
Mains 2 fish and chips with crushed peas, fish did look identical, which made me think this was frozen. Taste wise it was ok, crushed peas, weren't crushed just bog standard peas that were pretty dry when we got them. Some of the chips were undercooked
Desserts 2 sticky toffee pudding Nice flavour, not overly warm, very little sauce and 1 ball of ice cream
When they cleared dessert, weren't asked if we required more drinks or coffees Sat for a further half hour still nothing, finally went to bar to pay bill
Would I have got more attentive service in restaurant if it was open, probably, would the food be better, sadly don't think so
Haven't been into the restaurant for a number of years, and unfortunately due to lack of service and food quality...

Ordered sirloin stake and 20mins later was told that it’s not available either. So had to choose duck for the 3rd time which I didn’t actually fancy eating but there was nothing else on the menu ,to be honest. Food took approx 40mins to be served, considering there was only 1 more customer apart from us 3 My portion size was very small considering £23 price and veggies were disappointingly lukewarm. My children’s beef was undercooked and somewhat raw rather than medium .. When I mentioned this, I was simply told “we shall let the chef know”. No discounts were made for the poor service or lack of quality in the expensive food. I definitely do not a recommended this place to go to. You’re better off visiting the Metrocentre which is 10mins walk and getting a better service...
Read moreWhat makes your evening great after long exhausting day? Good food. What else? Great service. The art of hospitality is often non existent in some busy pretentious restaurants for example in London. Yet, I have arrived at Cast Iron restaurant and immiediately was greeted by immaculate and well mannered waiter named Kai. Food was tasty, and I was advised to go with chef recommendation on the juicy but well renedered ribeye. I was constantly checked on, this was non intrusive and well balanced. Thank you Kai, you added class to my evening and I went back to my room in upbeat mood. I hope you will receive a praise from your management and...
