It's a characterful building where decent real ale is served.
I had a shocker of an experience though. I'd clocked an obviously drunk and disturbed bloke at the bar as I ordered, and after getting up from my seat briefly to check out the rest of the pub found he had migrated to my table from his stool. He proceeded to spend the next 10 minutes leaning across me, covering me in spittle, sharing his wit and wisdom (there are too many blacks in London, apparently) and really not taking the hint that I wasn't up for a chat. (I might have been if I could have understood him a bit better, but he was too far gone.) Sadly, he fell asleep just as my food arrived, as my plan had been to offer it to him and beat a hasty retreat. The supersized Yorkshire pudding with sausage and gravy was the only cooked meal I ate yeterday and today I am really rather unwell. I could see the woman through the hatch preparing my food. She wore a vest and no head covering - draw your own conclusions about this place's commitment to food hygiene. As I left, my unwanted companion was taking up a table for four, sleeping in front of a nearly finished pint of lager, while many customers were left with standing room only.

After a 10 minute waiting at the bar counter with no offer of service I enquired in the bar. Realising the lounge was mealy a seating area for customers uncomfortable with the bar environment I left disappointed with the lack of information from the licensee and little guidance from unfriendly local clientele. Non existent service, no menu available, no food, 3 staff and 12 customers I'm afraid I left disappointed and unlikely to return any time soon. (Visit...
Read moreThe pub is run by some nice young gentlemen, who are more than happy to help you picking a beer from their big (and very diverse) selection of brews! You will find none of the Heineken / Guinness brews there, but just local and independent Ales, Ciders and Lagers at great prices! The pub is very clean and also it has a super nice rooftop terrasse for relaxing in the sun (if it's out), a pool table and even a third room with a stage, where you would find some concerts on the weekend.
Honestly the nicest pub of Newcastle (even though it's in gateshead :P) and a great place for anyone wanting to try some...
