I had a very frustrating experience tonight with customer service at the box office. I had bought tickets for the Arun Ghosh concert tonight apparently 6 months ago. When I realised I had no tickets at home, I searched all email received and had had no confirmation, so I bought tickets online about 2 hours before the show as only about 60% of seats were sold. I arrived to find there were now 4 tickets for me. Despite it being an obvious accidental oversight - with lack of confirmation email being a significant contributory factor - the box office attendant and her line manager refused to make any refund or ' credit note' for my financial loss. They showed no empathy or sympathy in their stoic stance on 'no refunds' It was reminiscent of entering a Little Britain' "computer says no" sketch. I felt it was a total injustice. If I'd bought the last tickets to a sold out show, that stance would have been a little more understandable. Oddly, I've never had anything sent to my phone to ask me to review my experience before so I don't know if this note is for a general review site or organised by the sage itself but this was experience. My enjoyment of the concert was significantly marred by the management of my complaint and I intend to still seek a refund/credit...

Well this evening we had tickets for Rumours of Fleetwood Mac at The Glasshouse, starting at 7.30pm. We arrived at 7pm as we usually do, to have a glass of wine brfore the show and book halftime drinks. But sadly not this evening. Exited the taxi to be met with a horrendous queue tailing down the entry ramp. We managed to get in by 25mins past, others were not so lucky and were trailing in 10 mins after gig started ! No chance to grab a glass of wine before show started or book half time drinks, It was chaos ...lots of grumpy punters. Apparently The Glasshouse were trialling a bag check at the entrance. Nothing wrong with that nice to see a bit of security but it didn't work, I'm guessing your revenue from the bars will be down. Half time queues at the bars were horrendous, argey bargey and very disgruntled punters. Honestly the band were fab as always, however are evening was spoilt by actions of The Gatehouse, sending an email saying there is going to be a bag check did not prepare anyone for the delays and chaos that followed..you need to review how you organise this going forward as tonight, from a customer perspective was...

May 5th, Dionne Warwick, 'Don't Make Me Over' Tour. Expected to hear a legend sing an array of songs from her legendary catalogue. Instead, was subjected to a screened documentary and a chitty chat on the sofa, with only six songs sung over the whole evening. As she sang, 'Walk on By', a number of the audience, 'walked on out'. This format makes a mockery of the non-refundable £60.50, spent on a ticket. The weighting of docu-flick & chitty chat was proportionately badly wrong and the response of the audience to her evidenced this. She struggles to sing and is supported by her eldest son. She invited the audience to sing along, more like, 'sing for her'. No disrespect for Dionne Warwick, her career, her causes, her bridging, but the whole experience was terrible, except for when she gave the audience what they had come for - legendary songs. Time for her to hang up her tonsils and ensure prospective audiences are clearly informed of her tour being a talk show.

I have no issue with the venue. It's brilliant! My 1* is for entertainment value of that...

Great venue, but it is still COVID-nervous. Ordinarily I would give Sage a 5* rating. The acoustics are just wonderful and the seating very spacious and comfortable. However, the pedestrian access is affected by building works so it is a bit of a detour. It is also still not fully back up and running 'post-lockdown'. The Brasserie in particular shows no sign of opening. This is a shame because the ability to spread a pre-theatre supper over an interval was a major plus for us. I hope I can re-rate it again soon. However, last night was the legendary Transatlantic Sessions (Celtic/American folk). What a great concert! Shame that Ali Bain was taken ill and couldn't be there but the team coped well. Also a shame that Haitian-American artist Leyla McCalla (latterly of the Carolina Chocolate Drops) had her banjo broken. However, she improvised fantastically by strumming on her cello (see pic)! With her fantastic voice she was the star of the show (amongst many TAS stars on the stage last night). Looking forward to the gang's return in 2023.

The Glasshouse is an international centre for musical education and concerts. Opened in 2004 as Sage Gateshead and occupied by North Music Trust. The Glasshouse contains three performance spaces, a 1,700-seater, a 450-seater, and a smaller rehearsal and performance hall, the Northern Rock Foundation Hall. The rest of the building was designed around these three spaces to allow for maximum attention to detail in their acoustic properties. Structurally it is three separate buildings, insulated from each other to prevent noise and vibration travelling between them. Sage One was intended as an acoustically perfect space, modelled on the Musikverein in Vienna. Its ceiling panels may be raised and lowered and curtains drawn across the ribbed wooden side walls, changing the sound profile of the room to suit any type of music. Sage Two is a smaller venue, possibly the world's only ten-sided performance space. A great looking building with great architecture.
