I came to st Nicholas's cathedral for the christmas at the cathedral event. My first impressions while waiting to enter the building was it was badly organised. There wasinformation on the doors to direct people to there seats. Lots od confusion from ticket holders as to which doors to go in. No one outside and this waahalf an hour before doors open. In the end everyone was let in atthe same door. I waa later getting some fresh air with my daughter who was singing in the concert. People thought we were ushers. I feel thete should have been ushers at the doors. I rralise its a charitt event but tickets were not cheap and things should be done to a high standard. The fincert itself was very good. Not everything was to my taste. The swing bridge singers lead the carols and backed a number of the preformers, they could not be faulted and they are so good. Jimmy nail was the special guest and did a great renditiin of lirds prayer. It was a most enjoyable evening, it was spoilt somewhat at the end by billy Mitchell telling people to put notes in the buckets on the way out and not loose change. Considering ticket prices were in the region of £22. I felt it was not approriate to ask people to buy a ticket and then contribute later even though it isa...
Read moreA beautiful old cathedral dating back over 900 years.
In the center of Newcastle stands a giant gothic style cathedral that from what I can tell started out likely in 1180 as a church which was subsequently burnt down more than once and then built upon into the cathedral that stands today.
Entry is free to the public and it is a beautiful place to stop and pause for a while. However donations towards the care and upkeep of the cathedral are welcomed. The stain glass windows at the back I found were particularly beautiful to view as they stand at an impressive height showing the history of Christ. Some have stories behind them that are a part of the cathedrals history, as well as the memorial plaques which are another great look into how the cathedral has become what it is today with help from the local people who would play the organ or helped out the cathedral in other ways.
In summary, this is a piece of history that is worth stopping by and checking out if you are of a religious mindset or simply interested in the arts or history for that matter. Newcastle cathedral is a living part of history that dates...
Read moreNewcastle Cathedral is truly a magnificent and intricately crafted piece of history. The architecture is stunning, and there are so many details inside that are worth exploring—it’s truly awe-inspiring. During my visits, the friendly staff members were more than willing to offer insightful explanations about the cathedral’s history and features, which made the experience even better. I enjoyed my time here so much that I visited twice, which is a testament to how much I liked the place. However, I want to share a personal experience. After my second visit, I began experiencing some strange occurrences. I had a series of nightmares and then suddenly fell ill. Perhaps it’s all just a coincidence, but I felt it might be worth mentioning, especially for those who are spiritually or physically sensitive, including young children or pregnant women. This is purely a friendly heads-up based on my personal experience, and I mean no harm by it. Despite this, I still appreciate the beauty and history of the cathedral and believe it’s a place worth visiting—just maybe with a...
