Completely confused as to what this place is meant to be - which may sound strange but bear with me. Arrived for coffee and some lunch on a Saturday afternoon and told there was no space as they aren’t putting 2 people on a table of 6. Okay, fair enough. The way in which this was communicated made me and the person I was with feel a bit stupid, as there was no warm welcome - just “No sorry, no tables.” Upon walking outside to the covered terrace, there was a table of 2 so we took it. Ordered via the app which was fine. Latte arrived and it was TINY. For £4 odd for an oat latte with caramel, and £3 odd for an americano, I expected a bit more than an 8oz flat white cup. Foam had flavours of the crema from the espresso coming through which was stupidly under extracted and acidic. The door was constantly left open - even with staff coming and going, nobody seemed to close the door to the outside area allowing all the hot air from the heat lamps to leave instantly. The sheltered outside space was incredibly dusty (see photos) and the table rocked when pushed on one corner. A couple had 2 takeaway coffees and sat on a table of 2 next to us - despite the restaurant not having enough seats to accommodate people who wanted food. The water cups on the bar were plastic (despite being in a location that advertises itself as a bar, why do you not have some small glasses available?) and located next to a box of dirty dishes - meaning I had to ask where they were, again feeling like a nuisance to the staff. I just don’t get it. Service was sub par and felt like we were an annoyance being there, is this meant to be a coffee shop or a restaurant or a bistro or a bar ? It’s trying to be too much and the menu felt a bit all over the place too. Going from Katsu fries to filled yorkshire puddings? Cakes looked nice I will say, but overall I didn’t want to give anymore cash over to the business based on how the experience had been so far. Don’t get me started on the toilets - understand they are council owned but if they’re on your premises to the average customer they are part of your business. They look like they’re straight out of the films Trainspotting. Overall incredibly disappointing experience. Main gripe was that I was made to feel like I was an annoyance when i’m the one paying into the company.

We went here for lunch time. First thing was we had to figure out how to find a menu then saw a qr code on the table the other end of the terrace. The menu took forever to load because my Internet wasn't the quickest where I was sat. If you are going to provide only a qr code with no back up, then at least provide a basic WiFi so people who don't have good Internet can still see the menu. When I eventually managed to get it to load, the menu has good options for most people and a good description. A photo of the food would also enhance this. You can add the things to your basket and then pay using Google pay in my case. Drinks arrived quickly and then the food shortly followed. The portion size is a good size. Food was tasty and cooked well. The views are really good of the coastline which is probably the biggest selling point. The cafe is definitely exploiting this with the prices. Even though the food is good, I feel the prices are overpriced. To get the 5th star I think the prices should be reduced a little bit and also either provide a paper backup menu or give wifi to those who don't have good Internet. Not sure how you would be able to see the menu if your phone has no battery.

Lovely staff that are always welcoming and friendly. Great service from what have become familiar faces. The breakfast choices are super and cooked very well, the presentation is always just right too. My wife says it’s the best vegetarian breakfast she’s had! Keep some of these breakfast choices throughout the day, they’re a winner! Keep it going everyone, you’re very much appreciated. Jonathan Just wanted to say a big thank you for the patience of all the staff whilst dealing with the obstacles presented by the 50% government reduction on the Coffee Co app. I’ve witnessed and heard them help and support customers time and again with the difficulties caused by this. Gavin the security man, seems to be everywhere at once, being proactive, using his initiative and helping wherever he can. Anyway, keep up the great work 👍 Jonathan

We visited Coffi Co for breakfast after staying in the hotel apartments overlooking the pier for our wedding night. We paid extra to have a £9 breakfast voucher per person to spend in Coffi Co as the hotel did not offer breakfast. We arrived and asked a waitress how we order. The menu is only accessible via QR code and when we asked for a paper version we were told they didn’t have any (lucky we had enough data and battery!). The waitress said someone would come along and take our order as we had the vouchers but no one came so I went inside to order. Our order came to over our £18 vouchers which was fine as we had cash, only to be told they wouldn’t accept it. Being the morning after our wedding we didn’t have cards or wallets on us. The waitress looked in her 30s was extremely rude. She bluntly told us we’d have to take off our drinks. We managed to include one bottle of water and so our wedding breakfast was limited to having to share! The woman then shouted at me when I went to take some sauce and was very sarcastic. The pure rudeness of the staff was a shame because the food was actually quite nice if overpriced. Speaking to friends who live in Penarth, many of them have said they have also received rude customer service and dislike the fact that the menu is only accessible by QR code which isn’t suitable for all people. I would not go back again and they ruined our otherwise lovely...

I have never had a problem with the drinks menu or the drinks received from coffee co, however if it is food you are after I definitely would not recommend. The Smashed Avocado comes with a sparing amount of avocado which seemed more like a processed avocado spread as opposed to freshly smashed avocado. One of the Veggie Lounge Breakfasts ordered took exceptionally long to arrive (4/5 of us had to start and had completely finished by the time the 5th breakfast arrived). A team member did apologise for the delay and informed of a fault in the kitchen and this apology was much appreciated. We then however noticed that the dish description when you order through the app stated that the Veggie Lounge Breakfast comes with halloumi so we kindly asked for this to be rectified. The team member then came back with a printed copy of the menu on which halloumi isn’t stated in the description so no halloumi was given. Having worked in hospitality myself, I would have thought the halloumi would’ve been given as a gesture of goodwill especially considering both the discrepancy between the online and printed menu (which we didn’t see as we were encouraged to order through the app) and the tremendous wait for the...
