Had a meal here on Saturday 9th March of the evening, starters and main course only, three persons in the group. First things first, the setting is a great place right on the short but pleasant promenade at Penarth... a situation that, by day, will give you a nice view over the Bristol Channel, the promenade and the pier while at night, the view shows the delicately lit promenade. Parking could be difficult at peak times with the places limited to roadside parking, though, quite fortunately for Sid's, there are disabled parking spaces right outside, and an access ramp for wheelchair users. Inside, the available space is limited but tastefully decorated and tables are well placed with sufficient space, but let down by the access to the toilet which is quite constricted and not to be considered as wheelchair friendly, there simply isn't the room for a wheelchair to get to the toilets. Staff were all very friendly but got to the point where we felt that there were a few too many periodic visits from several of the staff members to the table to check on satisfaction, where one person to one table would have been better. That said, feedback was welcomed. Food - Some people may go for a 'volume' meal while others may prefer to pay more for a quality meal. Here, we all felt that the quality of the food was excellent, but there was also volume there too.. the first time for many years where I failed to complete two courses, yet still had a 'special' quality meal. The menu is very limited, just a handful of choices but we had no real issues selecting a favourite. Vegetarian/vegan dishes were limited to a very disappointing one dish in the 'starter' and one in the 'main course' sections.. as a 'Veggie', if you don't like avocado and veggie burger, you don't eat! The quality of the food though was very good.. tasty, hot and nicely presented. I took the time to speak with neighbouring tables about their experience and they too were very satisfied with the overall scene and food quality. To close... a place where I would certainly return and would recommend a visit. Suggestions for the owners: Food - present a wider menu to include more diverse choices in taste and to cater more for people's varying dietary requirements. Premises - Access for disabled or disadvantaged persons could be improved. Service - One person per...
Read moreMy family and I stayed at Sid's for a family gathering over the weekend just passed. The place is at a lovely location on the calm Penarth seafront and is relatively understated visually which allows its strengths to shine through. We booked multiple rooms which were more than adequate; they contained a comfy bed which I slept very well in, I must say. It contained a telly, T&C facilities, you know, all the traditional stuff. My room had a fold out sofa bed which my kid slept in (he didn't sleep well, but I can't mark Sid's down due to MY snoring). The room was above the main restaurant and faced the sea. Music from the outside seating area leached into the room via the openable windows but the playlist was nice and gentle and only added to the relaxed vibe, so that was very welcome. The en suite was very small but functional enough. The food at Sid's is very fresh. In the restaurant, the service is a tad slow, but the food itself is so good it does pay off. Sid also employs young locals who seem to buy into his ways of doing things which is indicative of a good work culture. I'd recommend the gaff to anyone for a short stay or even just a...
Read moreSituated on the front of Penarth over looking the beach front, lovely spot to while away the afternoon. The seated area outside was well covered and adhered to covid regulations. It was fairly quiet when we visited, 13:00 Thursday afternoon. The waiter was very polite and we were seen to fairly quickly. We ordered 2 glasses of New Zealand white wine £10 each and 2 crab sandwiches £11 each from the menu. Total bill £42. A bit on the expensive side, but for crab you expect to pay a bit more. The sandwich came with side salad, coleslaw and French fries, it was all presented lovely on the plate. The only thing that I would say is that the sandwich was not really a crab sandwich, it had crab in it, but mixed in with salad, for the price that I was being charged for I expected for for my money. If I was in St Ives and sitting on the front with a crab sandwich I would know I was eating crab. So overall, good service, pleasent location, just a shame the lunch...
