Golden House Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Great Britain

Thought we'd try this restaurant, as not been there before. Hubby ordered king prawn with ginger and spring onions, with egg fried rice. King prawn was a good size but wasn't enough ginger, he only had two bits! Plate was put on the table while it was hot, before his foods came. His plate wasn't hot by the time his foods came, which took 10mins. Usually the hot plate and foods come together? We thought it unusual the plate came first, while waiting for foods to arrive? My plate wasn't hot but I wasn't bothered with mine, as I eat quick! It was nice not listen to music while we eat, which makes a change. We don't like music loud when we go out. To the restaurant staff, please bring hot plates out with the foods together, and not plates first and it gets cold! Hubby eats very slow. Our foods wasn't...

We were warmly welcomed into the very clean and tidy dining area. Almost seemed like no one ever goes in there. My colleague and I are renowned for bringing the party with us, but the atmosphere on this occasion was sadly lacking. Maybe just turn the lights down a bit? No chopsticks or finger bowls in sight. Soup for a starter was enjoyable, but a portion of only two ribs seemed a bit mean. Main courses, unfortunately, barely edible. Prawn crackers not much better. The takeaway side seemed to be popular - amusing telephone conversations and cigarette smoke drifting from the kitchen.

Have upgraded my 2 star rating after the meal we had last week. Back on form Golden House! It was lovely and I can't wait to eat there again.

Have to say tonight I'm disappointed. This place has changed hands recently. The chow mein doesn't have that lovely tasty sauce through it any more, it's the same as any generic chow mein you can get anywhere. And the batter on the sweet and sour chicken was super thick and greasy. Such a shame. I'll be trying it one more time in case it's not been as good due to a busy Saturday night, but if it's the same I won't be going again.
