Two key facets of my recent UK trip were to take photographs as well as hunt for good coffee - as a location, Rhayader ticked both boxes because I could shoot the Groe, as well as have coffee at Narrative (really close to each other). I was greeted by two friendly ladies and I ordered a long black which came in a cute eco-friendly cup. I also spent a few minutes browsing beans and picked up what I hope to be a very tasty brew (I haven’t got done to trying it at home yet). The long black was very good, and I was tempted to go back for a second cup but I was off-schedule so I had to move on. But I would most certainly visit again

Genuinely world-class, in Rhayader... Expertly sourced, curated and served coffee that is exclusively 'speciality grade' (for non -coffee people, you can't really do better). Chatty, vibrant atmosphere with seats in the window if you want a more social time, or a cosy nook downstairs for a quiet drink. The head honcho here has a background in setting up specialty coffee shops across London, and he's brought the best of his craft to Wales. I stopped in here 3 times in 3 days. It's genuinely awesome and one of a kind for the area - give it a try and you won't be disappointed!

We were recommended to try the coffee at Narrative Coffee, and it did not disappoint! One of the best flat whites I’ve had outside of Melbourne – absolutely top-notch. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The space is a bit like the TARDIS; it seems small at first glance but surprises you with plenty of seating inside. Everything was spotlessly clean, including the toilet. We loved it so much we went back to try their real chocolate milkshake – heavenly! This place is a gem, and we’ll definitely be back

So I've debated over leaving a review for this place for weeks, but am doing so in the hope they'll actually take note of what I say online (because they don't seem to be listening in person!) First time my husband and I visited, I was super excited about the blue chai latte. The cake was delicious (this has been the case on all 3 visits, altho somewhat limited choice). Our drinks were tepid at best, and I was told to take my own cake to the table, despite clearly dealing with my 'lively' dog whilst ordering. 2nd visit (benefit of the doubt), the service was faultless, this time a girl with long dark hair who always has a smile and a kind word. Again, our 2 drinks were tepid, despite mentioning our last experience when we ordered. 3rd and final visit - on ordering, we SPECIFICALLY asked for hot drinks! They suggested they would warm the cups... shouldn't a good barista be doing this anyway? Despite this, the drinks were in no way hot, and if we'd lingered over them, they'd have been stone cold in minutes. I don't understand why they can't get his basic concept right - we don't want molten lava temperature, just a hot cappuccino or chai latte that we can drink without having to glug it down immediately. Until they listen to feedback and up their game, unfortunately we won't...

On Saturday on a journey from Yorkshire to South Wales we stopped for a coffee break in Rhayader to discover that the location we had Google was a coffee machine in a shop. My husband is a coffee lover and was craving a good cup. Thankfully as I got out of the car a man walked past with a gorgeous sausage dog and 2 coffee cups. I asked if it was good coffee and he said ‘yes fantastic coffee and spoke very highly of Narrative and pointed us that way. So we headed down and were not disappointed. Lovely little coffee shop, lovely atmosphere and friendly and a good bathroom, perfect for a stop off. My husband had the guest roast and thought it was absolutely stunning, i think he wished he’d got 2. I had an iced latte, also gorgeous. So lucky to have found this little gem. We’re going to try and stop in again on our way home next...

We are staying locally whilst on an annual family visit and we dropped in today for coffees and doughnuts on recommendation from a family member. The premises are clean and bright with minimal decor and comfortable seating. Service is very friendly and helpful. The drinks were excellent as were the doughnuts. They don't serve meals as it's quite a small venue but the doughnuts and coffee were plenty to perk us back up. The milkshakes deserve a special mention. The one we had was cinnamon and it was a perfect balance of creaminess and flavour. Without doubt, I'll be driving over again for the morning coffee during the rest...
