They do try hard, and had a good plate presentation but I'm afraid the food it's of low quality, maybe because of not many customers. I bought a burger with curly fries ... the burger was not good at all, frozen burger you can buy at Iceland and the curly fries were soaked with oil... they cut the meet in half and used grated cheese in between and on top....😳😲 I do feel for them, but still... it cost £5 for a mince meat and you can make 5 burgers out of it.... we paid £10 per burger with s handful of curly fries... so please, try harder. The 3* are for presentation, not for the quality of the food.

This is our favourite pub in the town, so relaxing & the chap behind the bar, ( I think his name is Lewis), is a very pleasant fella. Don’t walk past & miss out on great beer & fantastic food. My wife had the homemade lasagne & I had homemade chicken curry & after a rest we both opted for the raspberry pavlova with cream,(well it was our 21st wedding anniversary meal). Can’t recommend the place highly enough..

Fun locals pub on the corner. Interesting regulars and guy behind the bar was funny. Had the sports on when I popped in. Has a pool table and serves food. 🍻 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🎱

I have given the extra rating as the food was good and for following the Covid guidelines well very aware as my wife is an NHS nurse at the Cardiff University Hospital. One bit of advice I think you should take when someone stands up at the same table they are sat at to take a picture, try asking politely not barking or shouting aggressively. Remember custom is your business and when visiting beautiful Rhayader they want happy thoughts of its amazing lakes and countryside and not the one landlady that spoilt there evening by making them feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Treat others as you wish to be treated yourself, maybe you should put those words into...

Okay, where do I start, at this time cz off the virus the pubs/ restaurants are closing at 10pm, we had a couple of beers and at 9pm we tried to order another round and were told we couldn’t cz it was busy and the manager had enough of everything 😳, then at 9:10pm we were told that as soon as we had finished our drinks we needed to leave, fair enough it was noisy and rowdy but they had no security, only 2/3 young girls, tbh we were having a good night considering the circumstances with the virus but we are the paying customer and we are TRYING to keep YOUR business afloat, sorry for the bad review but I couldn’t believe how we were...

I popped to Rhayader with my elderly Mam to visit my brother and get a bite to eat. We arrived at 2.45pm to find one cafe shut, the other only serving cakes and one pub closed. We walked past this pub as it said they only served till 2.45pm and tried the pub next door. Gratefully, 2 men outside told us to pop back to The Castle as they would probably help us out, and how right they were. The lady behind the bar was super friendly and spoke to the chef who happily said she'd cook us something! We've never been so grateful! Absolutely lovely place and I'm so glad we came, if only for the...
