A wonderfully scenic site, sadly spoiled by a less than impressive golf course!

Whoever is the Green kepper / Secretary, may I respectfully note that:- (1) Bunkers should have SOME amount of sand and not the pre-concrete gravel which has been in existence for the past year (2) The condition of the tees is less than satisfactory - at least get them cut. Indeed the 2nd back-tee is absolutely shameful. If you can present it as a tee then don't use it AS a tee! (3) The greens need a damn good aeration; they are solid with a deep covering of wire-wool to make them "green-like". However when you have to 'ram' a 4ft down hill putt and it still comes up short then you know there is a problem. Remember, golfers use a putter on the greens not a chipper. (4) Reception in the pro-shop was 'cold' and unwelcoming. (5) Catering staff were great and food quality acceptable.

So, if you are an inexperienced golfer that like to 'hack it round' then this is probably the place for you. If however you are looking for a course that plays like a golf course then its best to...

Wonderful reception and breakfast, the gentleman in charge of the catering was wonderful. A pity the Profesdional/ Director of Golf was not as pleasant when we had to leave the course after playing only 10 holes - the course flooded and was under water. When l asked for some form of compensation he said "when the rain stops you go back out". It was a command and not a request. We had to travel back to Oldham and could not re-convene hour game as it was still raining heavily 1 hour later. Funeral buffet at the golf club. Food was good coffee machine broken but hot flasks provided for help yourself coffee but quite a few stated coffee was a big let down so tried the pay for it machine but kept the money but it was quickly refunded. Staff really helpful and no requsts became a problem, went out of their way to try fulfill them. So nothing was a problem for staff or management. So 9.half out of 10, half a point off for lack of good tasting coffee. Do not let that put you off as I'm sure coffee machine should be fixed pronto.
