I tried Brgr & Shakes after they were recommended by a friend. I shouldn't have bothered. Upon entering, I looked on the walls for a menu, as is the norm in most takeaways, but couldn't see anything. Then I noticed 2, well-handled laminated sheets on the counter. They turned out to be the menu.
I placed my order and went to pay with my card and was told it was cash only payments. What decent and legitimate business doesnt take cards these days?? Anyway, the guy serving said he would put my order in so they could start cooking it, whilst I had to hike up the road to the Spar to draw out some cash. The free cash machine that was at the Spar had disappeared, so I had to get cashback, for which the Spar charged me for withdrawing!! This annoyed me and I just wanted to forget it at this point, but as I had already ordered my food, I wanted to honour the transaction. So back I went and when I walked in, 3 young ladies were being served. However, as I had ordered before them, I expected my food to be ready imminently. I was wrong! Eventually, a lady asked me for my order and I explained that I had already ordered with the guy who was previously serving, but that I had nipped out to get "cash". After 5 minutes of checking the till, she came to the conclusion the order had NOT been put through as he said it would be, so, looking embarrassed, she took it again and so I was now effectively at the back of the queue. Due to the fact I was starving, I paid for the order and sat down. As I waited for my food, the noise produced by the blenders they were using to make the shakes, was absolutely deafening. You literally couldnt hear anything over the awful sound they made. In all seriousness, I hope the staff there are all wearing ear plugs, because they will be deaf as posts in no time!! Finally, I received my order and the manager/owner (I presume) who had been floating around the shop, handed it to me and apologised for the delay. I took the food straight home and upon opening the (stapled shut) bag, my first disappointment was the fact the burger was wrapped in foil. I know this is done to help keep the food warm, but personally I hate this as the food effectively "sweats" until it is unwrapped, threfore making the bun wet and soggy! My second disappointment was the size of the burger. It was much smaller than I expected it to be! McDonald's can give them a run for their money as I got very little change from a tenner for the Brgr & Shakes burger specimen & overcooked, poor quality fries, but could have had a large Big Mac & fries AND a drink and would still have had a few quid more leftover.
My final gripe is that I have since been informed that the meat used at this establishment is halal!
Had I known, I would NEVER have gone to or purchased from this business. The thought that I have consumed halal meat make me feel physically sick.
Religion aside, I abhor this method of slaughter. It is barbaric and cruel and inflicts unnecessary suffering to the animal.
Consumers should be made aware the business supports this practice so they can make an informed decision whether to purchase from...
Read moreThe burgers are to die for for the price is too expensive though. I got a beef burger and fries and it was just under £9 I asked for a pot of sauce for my chips which I didn't mind paying extra for but when they gave me a tiny tiny pot which I swear only used on two chips and it was gone. I did pay for two pots of course but still wasn't enough for all my chips. And considering I'd spent nearly a tenner in the place I thought maybe giving me a little more sauce wouldn't hurt.
I have rung here when ordering at times and the music had been blasting so made it hard to hear what they saying. Staff seem nice but very young and inexperienced, but that comes with time.
The sauce is something else though, very good on the beef burger.
It's a nice treat but expensive. Be good to offer burger and fries deals with a drink etc. Loyalty scheme, free pots of sauce lol after so many orders.
The guys that run it are very friendly and chatty. I will be...
Read moreill start by saying the food is amazing (when its actually hot and on time). We have been ordering from here since they opened and almost every single time we have had a problem with the delivery. be that over an hour late, not turning up at all or the order being wrong. Almost every time met with a different excuse "driver quit mid shift" "really busy" etc. Id have that, but every single time? adjust your just eat times and give a longer delay, rather than stating a time, updating to say delivered and people still be sat for over half an hour before they cave in and ring to ask. for context tonight - ordered at 1950, estimated delivery 2050. marked as delivered 2100, called to question 2125, arrived 2140 cold and wrong. if you can collect, just do that. it still takes a while to make but the food itself is worth it, the delivery times...
