The morning started off with promise: a spontaneous stop near kendal from a drive in the foothills of my Scottish lineage. Anyway after a fantastic stay nearby this was on top of my radar. Arrived with a smile and was welcomed with a familiar hello, seating was plentiful and the aesthetic of the cafe looked to be right up our street. I ordered the avocado and poached eggs breakfast - which also states it comes with bacon. It arrived looking really nice, missing bacon which I asked about only to be told it was a "printing error". Sorry this is not a printing error but a typing error and should be highlighted at the point of ordering. However I wasn't too fussed as the meal looked lovely. It ends with the look, as I tasted it I couldn't help think bland and possibly too much lime but couldn't quite put my finger on it... anyway I hailed a waitress over to my aid, who seemed more than happy until I mentioned I wasn't happy. I asked to replace this with the scrambled eggs and salmon. While it appeared the server was attempting to fix it, perhaps a managers decision took over. I was brought back scrambled eggs on toast. These were nice and I was happy-ish. Until it came to the bill. We were charged for the avocado meal, which I questioned and missed (lost in translation I think) the response, as my girlfriend told me they'd not changed the cost to reflect the replacement meal. The food did seem very nice and this is purely a reflection of...
Read moreCame in to a busy cafe so expected good things, unfortunately its just the coffee which was good, can't say the same for food or service.
A lady came to take our order and made it very clear she would only take our drinks order even though we knew our food options. A second waitress took our food order and she said they don't offer swaps when I requested to swap a mushroom for a tomato. Some establishments don't allow swaps which is fine, but when the lady on the table next to us ordered from the first waitress as we were leaving, she seemed to have no issue making changes to her order which was very frustrating.
When the food arrived my mother had ordered the American pancakes with maple syrup and bacon. She received 1 piece of bacon across 3 pancakes which seems rather stingy. I had opted for the small vegetarian breakfast and was disappointed too, the hash brown was about half the size of the frozen ones you can buy in the supermarket and the tomato was mildly cooked and completely tasteless. It seems evident that nothing is made in the kitchen and the cheapest ingredients are used. My mother also believed the pancakes were shop bought. Given the poor quality of ingredients, the rest of the items were cooked (reasonably well) and they can...
Read moreWent for lunch today at the bristly hog in Kendal and both the staff and food was lovely! Couldn’t fault it! When we first walked in we had to sign in for track and trace and all guidelines were clearly shown inside, we were seated at a lovely little table for two by the window which was great! When we sat down we were given menus and told to order at the till, we ordered two iced teas (one peach and one raspberry) and we ordered the sharing platter of beef chilli nachos. Our drinks arrived first and they were presented well in a large glass with the logo attached which was very cute! Then our food arrived and OMG!!! It was huge, the food looked amazing and I would totally recommend to anyone wanting to support a small business! The only think I could fault was that there wasn’t enough beef in the chilli but it was still enough as it was! Everything came within 10 minutes of being sat down. All the staff were lovely and very friendly, couldn’t fault them at all, all of them were wearing PPE and following the guidelines which was a bonus!
Thank you to all the staff you are doing an amazing job!!!...
