Herdwick Cottages deserves an ALL STAR rating. We stayed at the Forrest's Yard Townhouse in Kendal, we booked both apartments as we were a family of 13 people. The accommodation was spacious and fully furnished. The kitchen was fully equipped with a microwave, coffee machine, electric cooker, double oven, washer dryer and dishwasher. The cupboards had all the cutlery, cups, plates, trays you can ask for an operational kitchen. We were also touched by the complimentary basket of teas, coffees, cookies and biscuits that were supplied by Herdwick Cottages. The townhouse is on the high street with all the local amenities within walking distance and the Lake District (Windermere) 20 mins drive. The townhouse is a stone throwaway from Kendal Castle and River Kent and the scenic views that Lake District has to offer. Several times during the stay we needed assistance, Maria the General Manager at Herdwick Castle, was very responsive and efficient at handling our queries, she ensured we were comfortable and had everything we needed. She was highly patient and came back with results and answers. Overall, we were impressed with the whole package, the accommodation, the service and the location of the property. If you are looking to stay in Lake District with all the familiar comforts and amenities nearby, then book Forrest's Yard Townhouse in Kendal, you will not be disappointed. We will recommend this place to anyone going to...
Read moreThe property was lovely (Windermere Cottage) and a fantastic location, however I have not had the best experience with the letting company which surprises me as I've only seen good things with the reviews....
I spoke with Ian on the 27th June prior to a stay in the 25th July who confirmed a TV was being fitted in the lounge and the existing one in the bedroom would remain (as in the photos). This was crucial with a guest classed as neuro divergent. Turned up on the day and spoke with Maria who said we had been misinformed, and there's nothing that can be done. I was told Ian was "just a staff member" but would call me back, which didn't happen. As a work around, I had to travel out of the Lake District to purchase an Apple Tablet to ensure the guest could continue with their usual routine with no disruption. I'm extremely disappointed with your service, and was not even offered remedial action or alternative accommodation to match the facilities we specifically requested. Disappointing and would warn guests to be cautious with comms and request anything discussed verbally to be put in writing. I would further be cautious to not rely on the photos of the property and facilities listed, as it may not match any specific...
Read moreHerdwick Cottages were really helpful, kept us in the loop with our holiday and provided us with all the information we needed without prompt. Thank you for an easy-peasy stressless holiday.
Just a few words about our holiday cottage; Laburnum Cottage in Windermere. The location was fantastic and the cottage itself was pleasant enough, beds were very comfy, towels were very fluffy! Only downsides - parking can be a bit scary-mary! house is around a tight corner, not best for large cars (this had been explained to us before our stay), Luckily got our Honda CRV in and parked - because of the tight corner we left the car there for the duration and used public transport. The cottage itself has a damp smell in the bedrooms, no oven gloves and no sign on the radiators NOT to hang towels on.....aside from this the Little Chippy (fish & Chip establishment) around the corner is fabulous! Staff were really friendly and the food was delicious! If you have children (or even grown-up's like us) who are fond of the Gruffalo go for a walk along the BLUE trail of the Orrest Head trail to meet him on your travels, in the...
