I really like Bob and berts, everywhere we go we seek them out, but sadly was disappointed with today's experience in Kendal. I normally order 2 side salads, greek, which are always on view in a big bowl nr the counter. They take 2 small metal tins and scoop it out, I pay £1.25 per scoop. Happy days. Today I was charged £7 for same. I got it refunded and then paid £3.50 for 2 side salads. The girl serving then just walked off in a huff. My wife's hot food came as I waited for my salad that was sat in a bowl at the counter. As my wife finished her hot food I asked the waiter about my salad, he said he would check, I physically didn't see him again! Another 5 mins and I went to the counter where the fella now serving (the boss) asked me if I still needed them? Of course I have paid for them, I said! 2 mins later he turned up at the table with one small tin bowl of salad, I said there should be 2 as that is what I've paid for, he argued that he was right and I was wrong for quite a while, so much so I felt uncomfortable. He eventually offered me another one which I accepted, (as I'd payed for it). So a bad day at the office all around if you ask me and to top it all off, there wasn't a single olive on my greek...
Read moreI'm afraid, it was a total disappointment . I ordered 2 coffees, a cinnamon bun and a peanut butter chocolate cake slice.. I thought it strange that I was asked if I'd like the cinnamon bun warmed up but soon realised it is probably because it was stale. I had one bight and sent it back. The young man was very apologetic and refunded it. I declined anything else, in fear that this was common practice to sell old cakes. I noticed that after my complaint that the rest of the bins were not checked and still up for sale. The coffee was not great either. I really don't understand why coffee shops and the like use cheap coffee beans . The coffee shop that we wanted to go to, opposite the road was closed, as the coffee I had the day before from them was fantastic. This may just be a one off , I don't know, and will never find out. One other small detail is that the toilets were freezing, as there is no heating upstairs where they are situated. Attention to details guys, make a huge difference. if you want...
Read moreNot the sort of place I'd normally choose to go, but the other half had been wanting to go, so we gave it a spin for lunch. On entering there is a huge sign helpfully explaining how to order. Downstairs seating area was pretty busy, but the food arrived quickly. Mrs G had the ham & cheese grilled sandwich (which tasted "just like the ones you get in America" - which is positive feedback from her). That came with chips (for £7.50), plus tea (£2). I had the vegan breakfast burrito (£6.95), chips (£2.50) and a large latte (£3.50). In fairness I quite enjoyed the burrito (more than I was expecting to!), and with the chips it was a filling meal. Overall, a bit higher price-wise than I would normally pay in my usual cafe, but for a first visit I was suitably satisfied to say that yes, I would go back and hence...
