Visited today with high expectations after a friendly person took our booking. Unfortunately, this wasn't borne out by reality. I ordered beef & turkey carvery & my sister beef & ham carvery. My sister received the same as me & my turkey was on a flattish bone with about a half inch of turkey either side. I tried cutting it off as best I could expecting another slice was underneath (the veg were in a mix pretty much on top), only to find nothing more. I spoke to the staff member who had taken my order asking for a slice of turkey for me & ham for my sister. Unbelievably, he came back saying they had said we would have to pay for any extra.....I explained again that I hadn't had a slice yet, just a bone & my sister no ham but he said that is what they said & wouldn't change their mind. The girl offered us a complimentary sweet instead --we couldn't understand - surely two slices of meat would be cheaper than the sweet but she obviously only had control over that and not the carvery. There was no toilet roll in the disabled toilet which I mentioned to the first staff member, then when my sister went there 10 minutes later, it hadn't been replaced. I mentioned it to another person behind the bar & he said he didn't have the key to the toilet cupboard ....! When I left I reiterated how small things like that make all the difference between recommending a place & not recommending it, he wasn't listening but fiddling with the TV remote, no apologies. I was dumbfounded by their...
Read moreBooked for five, on arrival didn't have a table available so put us on a table for four with a an extra chair squeezed in on the end. Ordered various meals two of which were the spicy Carribbean burgers, it was explained these were on offer Two for one! When these meals arrived they were on what can only be described as a side plate ( smaller than a starter plate).
Having said to the waitress we hadn't expected this, she didn't say anything and walked off, we then had to chase her for cutlery and paper knapkins, totally ignored us and went to serve another table, collected cutlery myself in the end.
To add to the 10 chips on the plate we asked for additional potions to try and make a meal, nothing arrived for 15 minutes, by this time.the meal was.cold and to be honest it didn't look very inviting, so explained we didn't want them waitress took them back.
Asked to speak to the manager who explained that was the size of the meal but did add there's normally a few more chips, highlighted the offer was 2 for 1, I explained the size of the meal should be made clear when ordering, I didn't expect anything wonderful however you couldn't compare the food with budget pub chains, manager offered us money off the bill, would have rathered have had a decent meal.
Wouldn't recommend the George mumbles, and certainly won't be going back...
Read moreI was so hoping to put a 5 star review on following our 2nd visit. The first time the service was efficient, friendly and nicely attentive. We all enjoyed the food too. On that first visit a very polite and well spoken gent looked after us. 2nd night was not good. The lady that served us was very abrupt. Wasn't sure about the free cocktail, didn't ask which one I wanted- I had to go to the bar and ask. They bought out 4 out of 5 peoples food and obviously forgot one which when asked about didn't even remember it. When it finally arrived it looked like it was thrown on the plate from a distance and the chopping of the salad components left a lot to be desired. Whilst waiting for the last meal to arrive, we couldn't eat as no cutlery was given. I went and fetched that myself too. The food was bland. I asked for my curry to be hot. It barely registered any warmth. I can honestly say, my curry goat knocks theirs out of the park. Happy to provide some lessons on adding flavour. The best things we're the nachos and loaded fries. The whole atmosphere of the place was just off though as well. I could say why I thought that might be given the luke warm, almost dismissive service we experienced. Not sure about...
