Booked a table Sunday as decided to go out for a last minute roast and everywhere in town (the usual places we try) was fully booked. |Booked for 2pm but came early and had a drink beforehand. |When I went up to the bar to let them know we were ready to be seated, the waitress just pointed at a table in the restaurant rather than showing us to it (they weren’t that busy so felt it was a bit rude). We were then ignored for a while before she came and dumped some menus on the table. |We watched as the waitress served another table (seated after us) first and continued to ignore us and not even look in our direction. |We then had to call another lady (the bar staff) over to take our order who was under the impression that ‘Sarah’ had done it as we had been sat for a while. |After food orders were taken, the food took a little while to come out and we were ignored once again and had to call someone over to take a drinks order. |Food was fairly nice, the roast potatoes were more like boiled potatoes (no colour and no crisp to them which was disappointing) but the meat and veg was nice. I left my peas as find them an odd vegetable for a roast (but that’s personal opinion).|We asked for the bill as the plates were being cleared but again sat for a while whilst the waitress in red (Sarah) tried her very best to avoid all eye contact with us and avoid the table. |Eventually I went up and paid with the lady at the bar who was much more friendly and helpful. |Overall, probably wouldn’t go back for food, it was nice enough but there are nicer roasts in town and the service left a lot...
Read moreWell since this pub reopened I have given it 4 chances to see if it would improve and sadly it hasn’t! They said it was being revamped but the seating is still the same inside with stained grotty upholstery and the toilets just as they were previously so the whole place still feels tired and uninteresting and lacks atmosphere. Drinks are priced at top end and sadly serving staff seem to lack experience or knowledge of how to give a good customer service etc This pub needed good front of house staff to try and establish it as a place to go to again but is just not welcoming in any way infact the landlord and landlady have yet to even say hello or introduce themselves to any of our family and friends which is a big negative in the hospitality trade for sure!! The Reggae night was a let down not that busy and not a reggae vibe at all! The food was over priced from what we saw and tbh you couldn’t even smell any lovely curry aroma at all! We had intended to eat there but due to the price and look of the food and lack of atmosphere we didn’t and went for a much cheaper curry in town! We had so hoped that we could make this our local and support the new business but unless there’s significant improvement we won’t be going again and sadly I feel it will be another of Wadworths establishments that won’t...
Read moreI'd probably say this is one of the top places in Devizes to go out for a good meal. Food is very reasonably priced given the quality and serving portions.
Staff were accommodating and food was brought out reasonably fast, especially as the food was home-made, which was evident by the quality of food such as the potato wedges on the sharing platter starter. Absolutely amazing! Although one improvement I would suggest is to offer plates with the sharing starter rather than everyone having to eat from the board.
Quite liked the menu system, very simple but effective with a choice between pub classics or choosing a burger/steak/ribs/chicken or a combination, and then selecting from various sides and a sauce. I opted to pay the extra £1 for sweet potato fries and they did not disappoint. Another very well seasoned item with a generous portion.
Overall a very good pub and definitely a contender for one of the best in Devizes. Slightly more expensive than others in the area but 100% justified by the quality...
