The Rum Shack — Restaurant in Great Britain

We booked a table for 9pm and when we arrived we asked if it was okay that we were only here for drinks. The waitress who showed us to our table was great and said this was no problem at all and she’d be back to take our orders.

Shortly after she left another member of staff came over to the table and stated that because we booked a table we needed to order food. We apologised and said we didn’t realise this. He then began to lecture us on how we shouldn’t have booked a table if we weren’t eating. We offered to leave the table as there was several around us empty however he continued to pull us over the coals for booking. This set the tone for the evening and as a large group all coming to spend money we were shocked at how we were spoken to by this member of staff. He also stated the kitchen shuts in 8 minutes - hardly enough time to order food if we were eating.

All other members of staff were fabulous and attentive (and also all stated there was no issues with only ordering drinks) but unfortunately this one man and his attitude put us off going...

Pretty awful experience. The food was bland and disappointing. Had I cooked those dishes at home myself I'd have been disappointed with myself.

The "jerk" was just tasteless brown slop. Tasted like gravy only less flavoursome. Bizarre. Not even a hint of spice. Maybe something went wrong in the kitchen!?

I had reserved a table, and when I was shown to the table I was shocked as it seemed to be literally the worst seat in the house. Two seats side by side, facing a wall. The bar was directly behind us and the bottle bin where bottles got chucked in deafening us fairly regularly. It was so dark at the table we struggled seeing what we were eating! Probably for the best. Awful.

The service was okay. That's the only reason I didn't give...

Great place, delicious food with massive portions. Weird disparity of great barstaff and disinterested ones but overall good, however there was no chance of asking any more detail on the '100' runs they had with the two guys we first had. (1 kid outta his depth with everything,the other kinda just messing about maybe he was finished and just hanging around.) Pretty good overall really enjoyed it Maybe stepping on a landmine here but (& I guess it's maybe not totally necessary) there wasn't anyone of a Caribbean background working in this Caribbean themed bar so it's not exactly the most 'authentic' I guess (although it's not like I know who owns it or maybe they all had the day off) but like I said the food...
