I recently dined at Lobo in South Side, and while there were some highlights, particularly with the food, the overall experience was deeply disappointing due to significant service failures.
Starting with the good: the goat cheese appetizer was outstanding. The cheese was creamy, tangy, and perfectly complemented by a drizzle of honey. It was the kind of dish that leaves a lasting impression, and I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone visiting Lobo.
However, the main course was where things went downhill. I ordered the prawns, expecting a delightful dish, but they arrived cold, which was disappointing right off the bat. To make matters worse, the prawns were served in the shell, and I wasn’t aware that I would need to de-prawn them myself. I’m not very familiar with eating prawns, so I wanted to ask the waiter for some guidance on how to properly eat them.
Here’s where the experience truly soured. Despite there being only two occupied tables in the entire restaurant, the waiter ignored my attempts to get his attention multiple times. After waiting far too long, I finally had to walk up to the service desk to ask for help. When I finally confronted the waiter about the issue, his response was shocking. Instead of offering assistance, he told me it was my fault for ordering the prawns and that I should know how to eat them. I was taken aback by his rudeness and lack of professionalism. I had only wanted some advice on how to enjoy the dish, as I was excited to try something new, especially after traveling all the way from the city center just for this meal.
In the end, I was left £28 out of pocket for prawns I couldn’t eat, all because the waiter was unwilling to provide basic customer service. The experience was incredibly upsetting, especially considering how excited I had been to try this restaurant.
While Lobo has potential with its excellent goat cheese appetizer, the unprofessional and dismissive attitude of the staff, coupled with poor service, made for an incredibly disappointing dining experience. I hope the management takes these issues seriously and works to ensure that future diners are treated with the respect and assistance they deserve. Working in the service industry myself, I found this upsetting as people in the service industry are meant to look out for each other…

Read moreHad a great meal at @loboglasgow – every dish was solid, which isn’t always the case with small plates spots. Usually there’s a standout or two and a couple that miss the mark, but here everything came out tasting great and well-balanced.
What we got, in order of preference: • Roast coley with piperade & anchovy croquette, £16 • Pork chop, morcilla, chickpeas, burnt apple sauce, £16.50 • Roast potatoes, £6 • Confit garlic panisse with black garlic & parmesan, £7 • House focaccia with black olive tapenade, £5 • Spiced cucumbers chilli oil, crispy chickpeas, tahini, £10 • Truffle mushroom fregola, broadbeans, crispy mushrooms, £13 • Grilled courgette confit cannellini beans, salsa verde, £11
Highlights: The roast coley surprised me the most – interesting flavours and the anchovy croquette worked way better than expected. The pork chop was up there too – juicy and perfectly cooked. And the roast potatoes were class too – crispy, fluffy, seasoned just right.
Everything we tried was done to a great standard, even the lighter dishes like the spiced cucumbers and grilled courgette held their own.
One of the best small plates meals I’ve had in a while – and a nice wee spot with good vibes and staff who had great chat.

Read moreVisited here for the first time for lunch with a friend , who had visited previously and really enjoyed it. The place itself is relaxed and has a nice friendly vibe. Staff were great. Really helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the food, attentive without being pushy. My friend and I are both vegetarians and the choices on the menu were superb. It’s rare to go somewhere and be spoilt for choice. At Lobo, vegetarians really are. The menu has emphasis on sharing plates, and was described by our waitress as being similar to tapas but with more generous portions. She recommended how many we should have. Her advice was spot on. We settled on 4 dishes, which came out as and when they were ready. There was, though, very little wait for each dish, which meant all dishes remained hot and we could mix and match flavours. There really was no dish that wasn’t delicious. Chef is clearly very talented and takes great pride in their creations, and credit is well deserved. We really had no space for dessert, but couldn’t resist sharing the polenta cake, which was delicious. I would highly recommend this wee jewel in Glasgow and had some of the best vegetarian food I’ve had anywhere. Can’t...
