Quite an interesting one overall. We were a table of 4 having 7 course tasting with wine pairing. Opening cocktail was one of the best ive ever had, (whiskey and cherries) others agreed that theirs were “peng”. They were also delivered with an excellent flurry by the host who was a good meeter and greeter. The canapés, often the best part of a meal set the tone for most of the food unfortunately. They were all a little under-seasoned, predictable and lacking in luxury, this is in spite of the drama with which they are delivered. The best was a mushroom tart, but still wasn’t really very well considered. The worst was a blue cheese “doughnut” - a choux bun filled with a grainy cheese and no other recognisable flavours or textures. The bread was easily the best course, i quickly ran out excellent bread for the chicken butter and just gleefully ate it off of my knife feeling like an Elizabethan king. After that, the dried and undried tomato with super cold snow didn’t really work as a dish, lacked energy, presentation and inspiration and felt a bit like it was holding the place of a real dish that is usually in that spot. Scallop and turbot were nice, but very small and a just a little lacking in soul and seasoning, the chilli oil on the scallop missed the mark also. Lamb was a really nice dish, but again, unnecessarily small (I’m not an absolute fatty-bum-batty), and after a long description of the dish, we all found that it was very cold. Pre-dessert was good, but again just lacked heart. Desserts were an odd pair. The GBM was fine but had a peculiar over-riding chemical flavour to it and definitely lacked the freshness that it looked like it was going to have. The other dessert was a bit like a feast - but way too cold and frozen very hard, so didn’t really taste of much other than oil and a bitter chocolate. Im not sure if the kitchen were having a rough one, i know its a tough time, or wether they are being held back focusing on zero waste etc, i know im not in a position to say, just lobbing a few uneducated guesses around. But the whole menu was lacking a little everywhere……..Except the chicken butter……..which was perfect. The service was odd, but that made me really like it, certainly not stuffy and Our table host was brilliant in a quirky way. Overall i think i would have given the food 1.5 stars, maybe 2. The wine and the sommelier though were perfect. The pairings, very well considered and excellent variety, delivered with really good knowledge, soul and a sense of humour. Well done drinks team. The bill was pretty hefty for a 1star Michelin, a good chunk of it was booze, which as i said was amazing. This helped to balance the value for money category a little. My three friends found my comments mostly fair. Oh yeah. The closing chocolates were...
Read moreGot the news today this place is shutting, can’t say I’m surprised by this considering the services we received at the end of May. We did the tasting menu for two for 30th birthday. Service was fairly slow and had asked three times for a drink, finally got that drink then had to ask a further two times for another drink which I never got as we finished our meal by then. We were also moved from the table to the bar area to finish our desserts…. which was explained to us that this was due to the reason they always do this and there was plenty of room in the bar area. when I questioned why the table next to us finished the same dish at the table yet we were pushed into the bar area, they replied there wasn’t enough room in the bar area… this was a single man sitting on his own. All became clear when the bar was empty and the reservation after us came in and occupied our table whilst we were sat in the bar. Was plenty of room in the bar and the table next to us as I said had the same course at the table so to say it’s because they bar was full when it was less than 5 minutes between our courses is well just poor really. Also ordered a birthday cake in advance and never received it, then once I complained they gave us the birthday cake in the bar in a take out tub, which had a candle hole in the top, so it was very clear they knew I had ordered a cake and it was ready but needed the table for the party after us so just decided to not give it us.
After I said this I was given the bill with the service charge taken off (wasn’t paying this anyways after experience), two diet cokes taken off and the cake taken off.
Very poor experience for a Michelin Starr restaurant, had a email the day after bacially saying sorry but nothing else. Don’t bother if you’re looking for quality go to Paul ainsworth in Padstow, Adam’s name is all over this so maybe he should take more of an active role in what his...

My wife and I had 'Adam's Menu' which is the taster courses. We was slightly reluctant at first due to a couple of the courses wasn't usually to our taste. Overall, I enjoyed the courses I was reluctant about the most.
The waiters from the start were fantastic, and even made me a cocktail that wasn't on the menu (top points). The selection of wine, cocktails and beer were vast and mostly locally sourced (majority of the wines excluded).
The 'snacks' was the first course to come out and what a fantastic display that was, I even thought that all of the courses came out at once as there was so much food. Every snack was explained thoroughly and the recommended order to eat them.
The other courses were fantastic, especially the lobster what was cooked simply but full of flavour! The ingredients are all local and the lobster was freshly caught, explained the waiter. I would say this is tastiest lobster I've ever had (marinated in retired dairy cow fat). The bread, chicken butter was out of this world (make sure you ask for more bread). The only disappointment was the mushroom tortellini was undercooked on the bottom of the parcel and very crunchy.
The portions were excellent and I left the restaurant feeling full.
The service was very good apart from the end when paying the bill. The waiter approached and took the card from the bill and handed me the card machine and passed me the receipt without saying 1 word.
My only critism is for the waiter (all the other waiters were exceptional) to at least ask if we enjoyed the meal and experience and provide the exceptional customer service you would expect at a high...
