Gee's appears to be a retro-inspired burger joint, and price wise, its similar to Five Guys, Byron Burger. The big difference here though, is the quality, which is substantially lower considering what you're paying for. The beef patties fall apart and taste cheap and salty, the brioche style buns are however, pretty decent. You get a choice of unlimited toppings, but they're nothing out of the ordinary.
Gee's serve a small choice of burgers, with either fries or sweet potato fries, the usual soft drinks and milkshakes. And that's it, at lunch times anyway. I didn't see a breakfast menu.
The meals are served on a large A2 size metal tray. There are no plates as such - the burgers are pinned together with a large cocktail stick; which isn't really adequate to hold them together. It would have better having them wrapped in foil or some kind of greaseproof paper, so they would fall apart while you're trying to eat it. You can of course ask for cutlery, but you're going to be eating off the tray which you might be sharing with others at your table.
My burger, soft drink and fries came to £10, as it was some kind of lunch time deal, which seemed okay considering I wasn't very impressed by the quality of the meat.
This is also a tiny place, there are essentially four booth-style tables, seating up to 4 people, and there's a line of bar stools along the wall, with a little bench to eat off, so the place can only really accommodate about 16 customers at a time. They'd be better off looking for a...
Read moreNot what it once was. After the original Gee had to close the doors, I believe one, maybe two people have owned the place since. The latest owner has turned the restaurant from one of the best independant burger bars in Hampshire to a Greek Restaurant/Kebab shop... that also happens to serve burgers because that is what the place is known for.
On my latest visit, had a burger and loaded fries. Loaded fries were excellent as they had always been, but the burger patty itself was devoid of the quality that Gees was always known for in my book.
Don't get me wrong, everything else about the burger was great - - buns, sauce, toppings. But to have a patty in there that you would have expected from a kebab van on the street just seemed like an insult to the burger (and the Gees brand). In my opinion, meat of that standard is not worth the asking price of almost £9.
I must stress that I have not eaten any of the Greek food there yet and will return to do so I am sure. But unless things change, and the quality of meat is restored, I've eaten my last burger from Gees.
Edit: Everything I've had from their Greek menu is fantastic, definitely go for the Greek food! Top notch and in my experience very authentic. I've not revisited the burgers but now I go to Gees...
Read moreLast night it was both mine and my friends first time at gees and since we both loved milkshake and waffles we decided to try it out, needles to say it really didn't meet our expectations, we went in, we were told to look at the Menu, seeing that there was 3 choices of waffles and 3 choices of milkshakes.once we'd been seated we couldn't hear ourselves talk, we asked one of the staff members to turn the music down about, once my milkshake had arrived it had come in with red velvet cake, but the time it took me to eat the cake it had dissolved into my milkshake so more a less I was having soggy cake which I didn't really enjoy , and along with the cake was some cream, which if I'm honest it didn't look that nicely presented, but I guess a milkshake is a milkshake.during our time there all we could see was a guy scraping this cooker, and flipping burgers, not really what you wanna be seeing when your on a night out ,and before we left they were stacking up chairs and getting ready to close, which is fine, but they could have waited until we left, overall I didn't reckon much on this place and definitely would not want to go back,a waste of £12 but you...
