Lovly Pub.The staff made me feel very welcome. A genuine sense that they really did care. I notice that they were saying, hi, to alot of their regulars. I had a mixed roast. I'm a big guy. But I felt like I could of done with couple more Roast potatoes, 3 served. Only one pig in a blanket too. I did only book an half hour before I ate, don't know it that affected anything. I'm sure the amount would be adequate for the average diners. Just saying. My veg came in separate blow it had sat in the kitchen a little too long. But the contents were good quality and well cooked. Otherwise the food was lovly. Especially the cauliflower cheese, such a good flavour. I did have room for dessert tho. A Lemon marang pie, with cream. Again a little small. I was surprised to see squirty cream, alongside my pie, but it could of been frash cream piped, it tasted good tho. The pie lacked that enough lemon tang, for me. A very thin marang topping. But it was fine. A lovly touch, was a sprig of fresh mint leaves on top of my pie. That really elevated that dish, complimenting it superbly. The pub itself is clean, cosy and as I said, very friendly. Just across a main road is the beach! You can see the sea through the window. I did get to sit out the front to finish my Guinness, a pleasant view to be had. They a have a lovely outdoor space out the back. Smallish carpark, well lade out maximising the parking in that space. Overall a enjoyable pub. I will definitely be going back. I may even ask for more roast potatoes and pigs in blankets. I don't mind paying a bit more. Maybe it's me who is the...
Read moreArrived on a sunday 1.15pm for lunch. Phoned midweek to book table, and advised one dinner gluten free, was assured this wasn't a problem. It wasn't busy in restaurant area on arrival, drinks order taken and drinks served quickly. Menu's perused and roast beef chosen by both diners, advised staff gluten free. After quite a long wait our lunches were bought to the table. The gluten free plate had three slices of beef and three half roast potatoes and half a small parsnip, the vegetables served on a small side dish, consisting of two slices of courgette cut in half, a tiny floret of broccoli about the size of a 10p piece, a small spoon of red cabbage and four slices of Carrot no bigger than a little finger! I wasn't served any gravy and when I asked where the gravy was I was told they didn't have any gluten free, furthermore they didn't know I was coming! I told them I'd booked the table Wednesday and advised when booking. I can honestly say it's the worst Sunday lunch I've ever been served. I asked to speak to the manager, who apologised offered a free drink said I'd rather not pay the full price for my lunch as it was so dry it was difficult to eat. They did waive the price of my meal but come on, it's not hard to make Yorkshire puddings from cornflour or gravy for that matter. Sorry guys we...
Read moreMy wife and I had a long weekend off work and decided on an impromptu visit to Hayling Island.
Once there, and after a walk along the front we decided to look for somewhere for lunch and a quick Google search for places we could see (to check reviews) we decided to give the Olive Leaf a shot.
Plenty of parking next to and behind the establishment and a welcoming entrance.
Upon entering we were immediately welcomed with a friendly smile and a warm greeting.
Asking for a table for two we had plant of choice and plumped for a window table.
Shortly after our requested Lattes were on the table and we given plenty of time to order.
After looking at the interesting menu we were both drawn to a Special on the board of Hog Roast Pie..... Sounded interesting and different.
Food was served in good time and oh my word - what a well executed and delicious dish!
A cold Shandy to wash it down and a lovely Cheesecake to finish.
Overall a decent lunch and at a very reasonable price.
The staff were great and I would definitely return and recommend.
Well...
