On 14th August 2021, my wife and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary by treating our grandchildren to a meal at their favourite restaurant, Pizza Express. We decided to have a meal at the Pizza Express in Radlett. I called them at 4.30 to ensure they could accommodate 4 of us. A man answered the phone and very pleasantly told us that they were open till 11pm. We got there at 4.45pm and parked right outside. As soon as we walked in, we were met by a lady who I now know to be Dominiqua, the manager. She had a disgusted look on her face as soon as we walked in and I knew instantly she would be awkward. She asked if we had a booking and stated they were fully booked from 5pm to 11pm. I informed her that I had just spoken with somebody on the phone who did not mention this once. I could see there were only 2 tables occupied in the entire restaurant. After speaking with someone in the back, she gestured towards a table, outside the restaurant despite there being plenty of space inside. She said no words when pointing to the table - just a show of her hands and a very dirty look on her face. She was extremely cold towards us, and made us feel extremely unwelcome. The only conclusion I could draw from her behaviour was that she didn't like the colour of our skin. I am not one to use the race card freely, and in my 50 years of being in this country, I have never experienced this sort of treatment where someone has taken an obvious instant dislike to my family with no basis. Rather than sit down and accept that behaviour, I confronted her and asked her if she had a problem with my skin colour. She just turned around and walked off. The chef came out to reassure me they have tables and that we could dine there, however, that made it even clearer that Dominiqua had an issue. We refused to dine there as a matter of principle After leaving the restaurant, I called to speak with the manager, who was Dominiqua herself. Poor choice of authority on Pizza Express part! I told her how disappointed I was with the behaviour and attitude she had shown me and rather than apologise, she hung up on me. It is very upsetting in this day and age, to have to deal with this and especially, for my grandchildren to see that. This will not be an anniversary I forget, for all the wrong reasons. I will be taking this matter further. I would stay well away from...
Read moreLast night we celebrated my husband’s birthday at Pizza Express Radlett with all the family and it was perfect.
I had to write a review to express just how wonderful it was. Everything from the delicious food to the excellent service made it an extra special evening.
The restaurant has just had a little makeover and looks very stylish.
From ages 6 to 96, it was smiles all round!
A special thanks to Dominka & Abdul for really looking after us and making it so memorable for this birthday celebration.
We also very much appreciated the help with Granny Nanny’s wheelchair - this may be helpful to others to know that although the restaurant has steps to enter (and to the toilets) there is a ramp available and the staff were very helpful with this.
We will...
Read moreHaving had a few negative experiences at other branches of Pizza Express, I was not particularly looking forward to our lunch here but options for alternatives were limited.
Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised. It was really busy, but the manager was doing his utmost to keep on top of everything and seemed to be very hands on, serving food, taking drinks orders and checking everything was ok. The pizza was better than my other experiences too - it actually had topping all over which was not the case at some other branches. The service was friendly and the food decent. They even sang happy birthday to my son and gave him a candle in...
