Where to start! So we popped into the Commercial as we were in the area and wanted to try out the pubs. We walked into what can only be described as the most welcoming place on the planet. Anthony the landlord and his wife started chatting with us straight away and gave us loads of local info. It turns out this pub is quite the local hotspot with walking clubs and so on. When we visited they were in the middle of switching chef and the new one was due to start in a day or two. Cue us now needing some advice on another pub for food. Not a problem for Anthony the ever accommodating landlord who gave us a recommendation. My wife and I decided we would visit when we were back in the area if only to try the food and see if it was normally that friendly. Turns out it was and we sat chatting with Kayleigh the bar woman whilst waiting for the food to arrive. We were not disappointed the food came out and was all freshly made delicious. Not pretentious not complicated just honest pub grub. We have been told to come for Sunday lunch which I will given the food and the staff. Donāt pass this place by itās a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIs it worth the hype? No not really. Apparently they've won an award from Trip Advisor for Travellers Choice, and that's what drew me to this place for a nice lunch for myself and my girlfriend. Upon arrival, the inside is pretty dismal, not much atmosphere at all, so we moved outside instead. The drinks were good, and reasonably priced which was good. However the food. Mediocre at best. I had the steak and chips, my girlfriend had the sausage and mash. The steak was overcooked and very dry, and the chips were soft with no crunch at all. The mash was either microwaved or not cooked properly and had a funny taste. Just wasn't impressed. For somewhere that's won an award, I wasn't too happy. Don't think I would go back again and was overall disappointed and felt a bit deflated after having a great day and was looking forward to a nice plate of quality grub. It didn't hit the spot at all. However couldn't fault the service. Greated with a smile and bar staff were really friendly. Food let...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been going to this pub for many years and my favourite day to go is a Sunday, if you time it right with your food you can always stick around for the meat raffle at 6.30. It is a busy pub with excellent food and service, the meat raffle increases the good atmosphere that is already there and if you are luckily enough to win everyone celebrates with you. You do not have to go for food, they have a great selection of drinks on the bar, with friendly staff to serve. If Sundayās not your thing then menās darts and dominoes on a Monday, quiz night on a Tuesday, which is always a laugh, ladies darts and dominoes on a Wednesday, Thursday is pool night and then the weekend you are guaranteed a good night. Keep an eye out for any entertainment they have on, you wouldnāt want to miss it. There is also a function room upstairs which has...
