Small portions for the price. My pork belly came with "roast potatoes," there was barely half a potato chopped up sprinkled round like some sort of garnish. The pork was bland as was everything else on the plate. The plate looked pretty and i expected it to taste great when the waitress served it to me, too much time spent on presentation and no thought to taste. The cod was massive and my friend couldnt finish it, he must have had 4 potatoes worth of chips. Just seen the bangers and mash served to another table. Looks like a healthy portion. Im still hungry after my half potato. No one has asked if us if the food was ok or i would complain, not going to go out of my way to let them know. Verry dissapointing. Dont understand why this place if full and has good reviews, the people of Horsham must not have many other options.

UPDATE:- Sun 11th August 2024. Visited here again with family. Superb food, the fish and chips are amazing, the fish was so fresh and light, encased in the best crispy batter I've ever tasted! My nut roast was superb, and so was the roast beef dinner (so I was told). The haddock and salmon fishcakes were a hit for my parents who are not big eaters, so the portion size was perfect for them. Once again, a lovely experience with really friendly staff, reasonable prices and great service. Highly recommend. Great food, lovely staff, reasonable prices..will be back! Tried the new on the menu chicken curry with coconut rice ..absolutely lovely. The meals are served hot and promptly with a smile by the friendly staff. Like the idea of the mini puddings and coffee, a great idea, they were delicious too!

A few friends and I visited the Black Jug on Sunday for a roast dinner. Booking was easy and hassle free. We arrived and were escorted to our table in a cosy but airy part of the pub. The atmosphere was great and there were loads of people enjoying their roasts too. The food was delicious and the price you'd expect to pay. Around £19 to £23 depending on what you chose. Sides of pigs in blankets were available too, which are a staple side for this time of year! Plenty of food for the price. Desert list was filled with tempting treats, all around £7.95, again, reasonable. The staff were very friendly. Can't fault the experience and will go back.

Family unfriendly but not obvious. We went to this pub to have lunch with our friends we were staying with in Horsham. There were four of us adults and three children all under five. We were not told that children are expected to be seated and quiet. We had our meal and our children then wanted to get down and walk around the pub. Bear in mind that these kids are all under three. The kids started making a bit of noise and then one of the the staff members approached us and said that we would need to keep our kids seated and quiet as they had complaints from other patrons about our kids. Nowhere does it say that kids must be quiet and stay seated and when we walked in and sat down that might have been a good time to let us know that. The staff were very unprofessional in the way they handled the whole situation and it escalated quickly into an argument because I think they somehow forgot that we were customers as well. The food and drink were good and the first waitress to serve us was good but other than that everything else was bad. I would not go back to a place were the staff have no idea of how to handle a situation like that and they do not deserve custom from others either. Go to a kid friendly place if you have kids and don´t bother with this pub. I wish I could give it no stars but this rating system...

A difficult comment. I'd travelled down from Peterborough by train to meet with my sister, nephew and his wife to deliver a wedding present. This was the second stop in our trip around Horsham. They served cask ale, I wouldn't have gone through the door if not, which was of good quality and I enjoyed; both pints. My sister ordered a selection of light bites which were very good and enjoyed by the 4 of us. We sat in the sunshine in a good courtyard at the rear. It was their sort of venue, and this is the difficult part, it wasn't really mine. I wouldn't complain, they know and understand their chosen market and I'd say serve it well but I really enjoy; well let's just say the first time my sister and I met up to exchange Xmas gifts after years of little contact I'd chosen the venues in London, on arriving home her other half asked if she'd had a good day, her reply was great, great food, excellent ale I understand, and great fun; next time I'll take a bucket of sawdust for the floor. Here she didn't need the sawdust but everything else was just the same. Would I visit next time I'm in Horsham, definitely, the ale was great and so was the food but I'd not spend my Friday and Saturday...

Went with 8 family members booked well in advance, so they knew how many people they would be serving... menu looked amazing.. arrived in good time at 1pm.... then the disaster started.. forgot drink orders.. then waited over an hour and a half to be served overpriced very mediocre food.. although the menu would have you believe otherwise...venison pie??? more like a pie from a bad chip shop!! ...dont be fooled.. frozen chips that you can buy in sainsburys, because they do... you know who you are....!!! We saw you after in there because you had ran out.... and a so called STEAK burger, that was basically just badly cooked minced beef jammed in some poor excuse for a ciabatta roll.. junk..!!.. and when the food did turn up it was barely warm.. pretty poor experience all round.. and a bad apology from the staff.. shocking altogether....the bill was over £220... best advice would be to avoid this place.. got handed some rubbish vouchers that can only be opened by staff if you visit again... avoid...
