Unsmiling Staff and no vegan options - I thought it was me - daring to ask if they had anything vegan - surely there must be a reason for that surly and disinterested response? But no, other reviews on other sites confirm that these disinterested expressions have been present for several years. Either I went when the miserable staff were on or they change character at different times of day. I cannot recognise the description of 'friendly' in other reviews (apart from one male).
Billingshurst must be desperate for cafes to put up with this one. Hartfields a highly successful cafe in Uckfield , Green Welly in Ditchling and The Flint Owl, ditto in Lewes have amazing vegan cakes and vegan savioury options (and other places that don't have vegan on the menu will offer "how about tI make some tomatoes or mushrooms on toast? or similar). There was no alternative to a butter spread either (alternatives will last in your cafe fridge for ages - and what about dairy allergy customers?). The place itself is lovely, airy, bit noisy, unpretentious setting but how it ever got 5 stars I will never know. So if you visit, remember not to be a nuisance and ask for anything that might require some thought - and don't expect...
Read moreHad a late Sunday brunch. We ordered a hot chocolate and a strawberry milkshake. For food we ordered a Nutella pancake and ice cream and beans on toast, 3 sausages, 2 hash browns and scrambled egg. The service was fine and the restaurant was quite busy. The staff brought the drinks. For £4 I was hoping for a bit more than a small mug. The milkshake was not the strongest flavour either. The pancake came out quite well done and for £2.50 for the scoop of ice cream it was very overpriced. £8.45 for a very mediocre pancake a scoop of ice cream and a spoonful of Nutella. The cooked breakfast had 4 sausages when I'd only asked forv3 but they tasted weird. It was like a crumbly dry mixture not a meaty sausage taste. The beans completely covered the toast and the scrambled eggs were fine. Hash browns were good. The whole lot cost just over £26 and I felt this was a premium price for average food. I would go again but I wouldn't have...
Read moreThe service in here from one older lady in particular is always cold and frosty and un welcoming and bordering on the verge of being rude, it isn't the first time we have been in here and unfortunately she is always the same. We had a breakfast which was to say the least u impressive, they don't do any hasbrowns or any alternative which is a disappointment and this time we went the sausages were horrific, they were bright pink and looked like a butchers sausage but didn't even smell or taste anything that even resembled a sausage it was disgusting! We keep going back as it is very local to us but unfortunately we keep proving to ourselves why this will be our last visit. With poor un welcoming service and food which is poor aswell it isn't worth trying again. Its such a shame as it is a lovely little place in an ideal location shame the service and food let's them down time...
