Planet Spice — Restaurant in Huntingdonshire

Have been to this Indian on many occasions but will not be going anymore! After booking for 7:30 and turning up on time for my reservation, there were no tables available so we were told to wait. Usually no issue as I understand that prime time on a Saturday night it will be busy. After half an hour of waiting we finally sat down with no acknowledgement or apology and it then took a further hour until our food arrived. When the bill came I politely asked the waiter whether they might be happy to knock off a round of drinks (1x cobra, 1 x coke) for sitting us down much later then our reservation to which he was a little disgruntled and wanted to offer us other free drink rather than knocking off the bill. We didn’t want another drink so we agreed as he left the table that we would only be charged for one each. When he came back with the bill there was no sign that this round had been taken off and so I questioned again whether we were getting a round FOC. At this point he once more informed us that if we wanted a drink we would have to go to the bar. He was quite awkward and unhappy with our request. With that we paid the money and walked out. First time ordering from Planet Spice (we usually collect from an Indian in St Ives) so was looking for somewhere closer. We ordered at 6pm, food was ready to collect 40 mins later which was great. The guy on the phone was really polite which is always a good start! We collected the food at 7, as we were running a little late and it was still hot and fresh. The guy in the shop checked our order and again was really nice. The price we paid for what we ordered was really good as we got 10% off for collecting. The portion sizes was really generous, especially the curries! The tubs were full to the brim with thick tasty sauce and tender meat (lamb tikka masala and butter chicken) we also had rice, chips, keema naan (which had plenty of meat in) and a paswari naan. The food was nice and very filling. If this is how the curries always are then we would no doubt return so we will be trying here again to see if they are the same as what we got the first time round. The food was REALLY good, the service, absolutely awful. 2 members of staff appeared to have no idea what their job involved, whilst the 1 useful member of staff was rude, condescending and obnoxious. My friend was even snapped at, after asking if one of his dishes was on the way (it hadn't appeared with the others), "If you ordered it, it's coming, all right?!". A shame as the food tastes really good, but based on the experience in the restaurant, we'll be sticking to the takeaway option, or taking our business elsewhere! Beware, they also don't keep an eye on any of the coats, so I advise not leaving valuables in your pockets, or preferably keeping them with you... Food 5,...
