Not sure where to start TBH. "Come and stay in one of our recently refurbished rooms" the sign says outside. My definition of recent isn't ten years ago. Carpet saw better days in the 60's, the mattress's springs have sprung off somewhere else, bedroom smells of damp. Towel rail is behind the sink and the fixings still on the wall ready to impail you when you slip in the bathroom. A stupid throw over the bed that I doubt is washed that often... I don't want it but nowhere to put it... So it's on the floor. I'm sleeping on top of the duvet, hoping the duvet provides some additional comfort and protect my back from the sprung springs. Useful double sockets.... One behind the wardrobe, the other with no table to place anything on. Hairs on the bed (not mine, the last of my hair ran off 15 years ago). Will I be back... Probably in about 6 months when I forget how bad it is.

A welcoming historic pub in a lovely town, and a fantastic stay. The weather was very kind to us so we got to enjoy the lovely beer garden. We stayed over and our room was cosy, with a comfy bed and a nice powerful shower. We also had an evening meal, there is a good choice of traditional pub grub and what we ordered was delicious (so much so that we decided to stay a bit later to have Sunday lunch before heading back home, this was also superb). The evening we stayed there was also an excellent singer, and we got to make friends with the locals and staff, who were all friendly and super lovely. Last but by no means least, a good ale selection! They have a couple of permanent beers on and then apparently rotate/experiment with other ales regularly, and no complaints from me there!

Lovely place to stay, eat and drink. Exactly what you want. Free parking, fantastic, well priced food, a good breakfast and a selection of drinks. I stayed for 3 nights and slept well. Rooms are clean and spacious enough, staff very helpful. Things to improve? Well the holder for the shower head was broken meaning it kept falling off and hitting me on the head.. Will be staying with you again soon.

Where to start... let's go with the good first. If you're going there for a drink and some food it's completely fine. Friendly staff, decent cider and the food was lovely.

I'm giving this bad review as a hotel guest. When I arrived I was told the key to my room didn't work properly but it was ok, I could leave it unlocked. I queried this and with a bit of jiggling the key sort of worked but I didn't feel my stuff was safe.

Room was small and extremely hot. No fan provided despite it being nearly 30c in the room. Tiny window overlooks the bins so not the best smell. I get it's quite cheap but would putting a £20 fan in the room really hurt? Mattress was very saggy.

The fridge in the room made alarming sounds, clunking everytime it switched to cool down...not that it mattered as the noise levels in the hotel were so bad that you couldn't really hear it. The noise started about 2300 and I think it was staff, it sounded like rolling metal barrels and was so loud it made my bed shake. Slamming doors added to that...and it went on until 03:30!? It's like they didn't care at all for a good night's sleep for residents.

I had the worst nights sleep ive ever had in a hotel which left me groggy and grumpy for the next day. If you're looking to sleep please don't stay here unless you can sleep very heavily.

So, great little food pub, awful hotel. I feel mean to leave a bad review but it really was terrible. No one available to speak to on checking out, you're just left to hang your key up and leave. I certainly...

Booked a table for a Sunday afternoon to have Sunday roast. Called the pub in the morning as I had booked twice and needed to cancel one booking so someone else could have the table and the gentleman I spoke to confirmed the time and asked us to arrive a little earlier so that we could get our order in to the kitchen before closing. This wasn’t a problem at all however, we arrived 15 minutes before our time and the 3 ladies behind the bar acted strangely. All turned around talking to each other, not greeting or acknowledging us, and one walked off. After a minute or so, one woman turned around and acknowledged us. We said we have a booking to which she said “you haven’t checked your voicemail have you”. I thought this was odd as we hadn’t even given her our name. Checked both phones and no voicemails but she proceeded to say there was an issue with the kitchen which meant we couldn’t eat. There was no empathy from the staff, it was more like we were being an inconvenience to them. We then had to drive around and find somewhere else to eat with our one year old son. Will never book to go there again due to the rude staff and lack of organisation. Terrible service. A sincere apology or actually calling us to cancel would have been appreciated and accepted but neither of us received a missed call or voicemail so they just...

I chose The Black Bull for our anniversary meal and what an excellent choice it turned out to be! We received a warm welcome from Tasha, my husband Sean enquired about the beer available and once he made his choice Tasha kindly gave him a sample of the other beer to also try.||I explained that I was trying to make healthy choices but still enjoy my meal and Tasha happily made suggestions and offered healthy alternatives that fitted the plan I was following. Both starters were delicious and our steaks were beautifully cooked and full of flavour. I prefer my steak blue and was pleasantly surprised when Tasha said this would not be a problem as other restaurants have declined this request. The meal was finished off with a dessert that Tasha had put together to again keep me on plan. Thank you to Metin for cooking a fabulous meal and to Tasha for the fantastic service and for making our anniversary extra special. The Black Bull is definitely our number one date night choice in future and we highly recommend it to anyone wanting a high quality, reasonably priced meal with that personal touch! Keep up the good work...
