checked out bishops cafe and tearooms this morning for brunch. i am gluten free and saw they had some good options to choose from, from fresh gluten free sandwiches to gluten free fruit scones. my partner is also vegan. there was a range of fillings for sandwiches and a range of vegan and vegetarian options available. staff were very friendly and helpful to our needs. they asked about allergies and told us about nutritional values in certain foods. i ordered a gluten free sausage sandwich which they supplied me with 3 pieces of gluten free bread with dairy and gluten free butter layered with sausages. my partner ordered the chickpea and onion bhaji vegan pasty which came within 10 minutes due to the cafe being quite quiet at the time. prices are resonable and you definitely get value for money. setting is calm with smooth jazz playing around the cafe, its cozy and set up with fans and air conditioning units. i had a bottle of pepsi max with my sandwich, at the till they asked if i wanted a glass with ice, partner ordered a oat milk cappuccino which was hot and sprinkled with chocolate powder. only downside is that the cafe is card only which wasnt a problem for us but could be for others. will be returning to this cafe its an absolute gem. all staff are extremely polite and went above and beyond for my needs which is very appreciated. the cafe is located in the stable block at the top of cliff lane gates , they also have a kiosk next to the play park that serve whippies and slushies which is perfect for the summer weather. well done to the staff we will look forward to coming back!!

Went for breakfast with my family today. Ordered the American, full-hog breakfast and bacon sandwiches. Over the food was well presented and very well cooked the only place I have been to in a long time that cooks their grilled tomatoes correctly. My youngest daughter is a very fussy eater and finished all of her food and most of mine. The food was well priced for what you get and I have to say it is one of the cheapest I have been to in a long time (considering the quality of the meal). I was expecting to pay a lot more. The ingredients were sourced locally you could tell this with the quality of the sausages and bacon used nice thick slices. The service was excellent greeted with a warm and friendly member of staff who could not have done enough to ensure I had an excellent experience. The food arrived within good time and was piping hot. Everything I ordered came out at the same time this was a very big order. I have been a number of times to Bishops cafe. But this was a first since they put breakfast on the menu. The atmosphere is always calm and inviting. I have in the past taken work down had a coffee and managed to get a good amount of work done. The interior is very comfortable and has a warm feeling. The background music is at the correct volume you don't have to shout when talking. I would highly recommend a visit. I will visit again shortly. Thank you to all the staff at Bishops.

Chose to have a morning at Holywells Park as we wanted to try the Café as they advertise for Gluten Free Food and the food looks lovely. Sadly it wasn't great - the staff were friendly, and (eventually) the food was lovely, but the service and attention to detail was concerning. The only had gluten free scones available although the website and board still outside states far more, which they didn't seem too bothered about, and it seemed a wasted trip for us - it was scones or nothing. We were then served half our order, which was not gluten free (this was concerning). We waited 10 mins for the other items but nothing arrived - had to chase this up and express the concern about the wrong item being brought to us. The main lady taking the orders was very apologetic, and questioned the staff as to whether the item given was Gluten free to which the other lady just made a face (this could make someone very unwell!). She gave us an extra scone for the inconvenience which was nice but the service is not great, now having read the other reviews it seems to be like this often. It's in a great setting, all the food looks great and the café itself is really nice but everything else was a let down.

We were a party of 9 who visited recently, and we were really looking forward to visiting the cafe especially after seeing such great reviews before we booked, however we were left extremely disappointed. From start to finish it was just a disaster. When we arrived we were shown to our table, which was a very small coffee table, with large chairs around it. No where near enough room for 9 people to sit and eat. Even though we had booked for an inside table, we ended up outside as that was our only option for us to sit together. We waited a really long time for our food, and it was explained that our jacket potato’s were made to order and there would be a delay, which we were absolutely fine with. However after a very long wait, the food arrived but it was not hot. It also annoyed us that none of the food was brought out at the same time. So some of our party had already finished their lunch before everyone else had gotten theirs. And unfortunately one of our party’s lunch was inedible- the bread of the sandwich was hard, like cardboard. There just seemed to be no organisation at all. The only good thing about our visit was the service we received from the waitress who was extremely polite and really worked hard to accommodate us. We would...
