I have visited "salt n crust" 3 times in total. Today was a shocker. I turned up to the restaurant to then be updated by the family that they hadnt booked a table as it wasnt possible to do so at "salt n crust". I expected there to be some delay in waiting for a table and slow service as it was a Bank Holiday Monday and we were a big party of 15.
I was seated at a table with the max capacity of 11. We were then seated at another table with a booth close by to seat all 15 of us- I found this ok. Both male and female waitresses were nice.
We then ordered our food at 7.30pm and the waitress (3rd waitressa) was very kind and repeated our order back to us. Food was delivered around 8.10pm which was fine and food in general tasted nice. However, the 4th waitress who served us our sizzlers was very rude! I stated we hadnt ordered the hot spiced mix sizzler but she stated we had because the other half of our party said it was us (we placed seperate orders to try and make it easier for "salt n crust" in terms of food and bill payment). I insisted it wasnt our half of the party and it turned out I was right.
We also ordered multiple mocktails and majority of the party received them towards the end of the meal. Mine and my sisters mòcktails werent served and we kept asking for them multiple times- we were repeatedly told "they're coming" or "you didnt order that many." I kept a note of what we ordered and even had the waitress repeat our order to us!. I then got up at 8.40pm (by this time I had finished eating my food without any water/drink) and went to speak to the Manager.
On previous occasions I have found the Manager to be pleasant. Whilst I understand it was a busy Bank Holiday Monday, I found the Manager to be very rude and condescending. At 8.40pm I informed the Manager we hadnt received 2 of ouŕ our mocktails and a bottle of water (the order was placed at 7.30pm). He started showing me a order bill stating 8.11pm. I became confused as I was stating the order was placed at 7.30pm and 1hr 10 mins later we were still missing our drinks- I didnt get why he was showing me 8.11pm!. He then stated the mocktails were to be sent out with a gruff tone and I was taken aback and said "but we have finished eating." He then said "fine I will cancel them." I left the area and returned to the table as I was literally shocked at his behaviour. I havent met someone so rude before and it explains why atleast one of his waitresses had the audacity to be so rude (she made it obvious by glaring at our table!).
At the point of paying our bill we made sure to check it throughly- 3 extra cokes were added to our bill even though we hadnt ordered them. They were quickly removed from the bill when we highlighted this but could've easily been charged for.
Establishments need to remember customer service is key to keeping paying customers returning. Unfortunately, I and my family/friends wont be returning in the future.
ADDED: The owner replied to my review and I wasnt able to respond to it. He stated that we had ordered our drinks later on and not with the initial order. In fact we had ordered the mocktails at 7.30pm with the rest of the order. Clearly youre lying and are very unprofessional- evident on the way you replied to my review (seems to be a pattern on all negative reviews). I dont think being banned is actually a bad shout lol. Continue with your hard work by rolling your eyes when someone asks if youre...

Great looking place, the owners have spent a fair wack here blinging up what used to be quite a drab pizza restaurant. When they do bring the food out it does look amazing on fancy plates, the portions look reasonable and the mojitos look fancy.
And now for the truth: There were 4 of us eating and we all like different tastes and different foods, so:
The food is honestly horrible. Its been a few years since I've had anything that tastes this bad. We had a reggae reggae pizza, all the pizzas are supposed to be genuine Italian and thin crust. Firstly we couldn't tell what was reggae about it. It was bland and tasteless, and also quite chunky... nothing genuine about it whatsoever. It was also cold in a few places. Half of the pizza was left to probably be binned. We had a peri chicken burger, this place is next door to Frankies- even though I don't highly rate Frankies their burgers are miles better, so if you want a burger, go Frankies instead. My friend ate half the burger only. His fries were lukewarm by the time they got to him. The fries stayed on the plate, almost untouched. We had a Calzone stuffed with chicken, meat and donner. Again this was horrible, I honestly don't think the pizza chef has a clue. First try genuine Calzone pizza at any genuine pizza eatery ( with genuine Italian chefs then and compare to this place)... can't believe how bad it was. Half the Calzone was left. We had the khobeda mix chicken grill. These guys fool you with a meat seekh kebab and hope you don't realise it's not a kobeda. This was dry and hard. If you want to know what genuine kobeda tastes like, try Classic Persian in Bradford. Almost all the kobeda was left. The only thing nice on this plate was the salad, I'm honestly shocked.
We ordered a Alphonso Mojito and although the drink was nice the service around this was questionable. We ordered a mojito jug and asked for 4 straws. Another waiter came back and advised the jug is not big enough for 4 people... did we ask for your opinion? Do we look like the type of people who have never eaten out? We know what a mojito jug looks like, we only wanted to taste the mango and lime combination and we all ordered individual drinks with our meals already too. When the drink came back it had 2 straws, I told the waiter we asked for 4 straws, he told me he had provided 2 and gave me a blank look. Ok mate, if you want to be a @#$% towards customers then you are getting a review from me that's for sure.
Noooooobody came to the table during the meal to ask how it was. The service is horrendous, for the prices they charge you expect decent food, but decent service at the very least... horrendous service.
I eat out at new places weekly as my mates are all proper foodies. I wouldn't have classed the meal quality to be worth more than around £40 but we paid close to £60...overpriced and hype.... They have the gimmick but not the substance to back it up... not going back, plenty of other good places I can eat.
Its a shame as Home Diner Batley was very nice and this place is nowhere near the quality Batley has lost in home diner....
Disappointed to say the least.... and I've ended up with an upset...
Read moreI recently had the unfortunate opportunity to dine at Salt & Crust. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted not by the warm embrace of hospitality but by the stifling atmosphere of overpriced mediocrity.
As I settled into my seat, it became increasingly clear that the staff had more of an interest in socialising than serving. Our server, a figure who seemed all too comfortable in their own arrogance, barely acknowledged our presence. When we sought recommendations, their response was a brusque wave of disinterest, as if we were imposing on their time. Instead of feeling welcomed, we felt rushed and ignored, as if we were merely another part of the moving furniture.
To add to our discomfort, the volume of the music was so high that engaging in conversation became an exercise in futility. With every pulsating beat and shrill song drowning out the clatter of dishware, our attempts to connect over our meal were met with frustration and distraction. It was an experience reminiscent of a party, rather than a refined dining experience, leaving little room for savouring the food we barely wanted to indulge in.
Speaking of the food, I can only describe it as pedestrian at best and atrocious at worst. Each plate came with a price tag that indicated it should be an artful feast, yet what we received failed to elevate even the simplest palate. Dishes were disappointing and served with an undeniable air of urgency—an hurry to get us in and out, as though the restaurant was perpetually on the brink of closing despite us dining in what was purportedly their peak hours.
In retrospect, I can’t help but feel that Salt & Crust is a manifestation of style over substance. With its rude, arrogant, and uninterested staff flinging substandard offerings at us in a cacophony of sound and rushed service, it’s difficult to understand how they hold any hope for longevity in the competitive culinary scene. If you're looking for a dining experience that values quality and customer experience, I'd recommend casting your net book in a different part of the...
