After years of being a fan of 'Last of the Summer Wine', just couldn't wait to visit this Cafe. On approach it looked as expected, but the excitement soon disapated. There were lots of people sitting at the front, most smoking, which meant the air was heavy with it. We requested a non smoking area and was directed inside, but what we didn't expect was the server saying she didn't mind the smoke as she used to smoke about 3 years ago, and she comes out to get a fix of it. Inside the cafe was boring. No welcome and lacking of atmosphere, so all the anticipation was gone. We understand that the staff may be bored with the continuous reference to the BBC series, but in reality, they are benefitting from this and each customer should be treated like the first. To top it all of, the 'tour' was not available and we were informed that it hadn't run for a week and would be a few days before it restarted. We had travelled 5 hours for this and it was a total disappointment. Feel sorry for people who may have invested even more and travelled from abroad for something that does not deliver. A real let down for the legacy of Last of the...
Read moreIt was OK. Staff were very helpful and friendly, but it seemed it was basing every part of it's business on last of the summer wine. (Yes I realise it is a huge part of the cafes history) In doing this it was neglecting the other more important things like food quality, cleanliness and the general look of the place. Three outside tables hadn't been cleared when we arrived although there were plenty of staff available and the cafe wasn't full of people. The small cake choice was displayed on two shelves of a glass front free standing fridge. Most of the choice were pre packed items. It looked far from inspiring. I chose the Mars crunch bar, which was average. My mate had a scone and said it was very nice especially as it came with a pot of cream. I'm glad I visited, but I don't think I will be...
