Disappointing mothers day meal !
We arrived late in the evening so the place looked reasonably quiet . Firstly , service is pretty much non existent. We were basically shown to our table and that was it . Menus were just strewn across the table . You go to the bar to order drinks then you have to order food at the bar too . You help yourself to the cutlery. You get asked your table number but I'm not sure anyone knows which table is which as every meal that arrived before ours was sent to the wrong table . When our food finally arrived after 45 mins ( maybe longer) it didn't look very appetising. There didn't seem to be any care or presentation involved in plating up . My wife had a roast beef dinner which consisted of 2 small slices of fatty beef ,a tiny dollop of instant mash , a cremated Yorkshire pudding, burnt on the outside but uncooked on the inside parsnips , 1 undercooked baby carrot and a few undercooked green beans and peas with some aunt Bessie's roast potatoes. The gravy (or lack of it) was thick and lumpy . My daughter had a kids chicken dinner which had the tiniest piece of grilled chicken breast . My sons and myself had a chicken burger and chips which was OK but very ordinary. Again ... poorly presented . There seemed to be a lack of good house keeping too as there lots of food on the floor that no one looked interested in cleaning up . The place is quite cheap and apart the chap behind the bar , it's definitely not cheerful. I doubt we would return...
Read moreI went to the Spinks Nest on Monday evening with my wife for a quiet evening drink after a nice walk. The bar was busy with only one, quite young, female member of staff present. We got our drinks and sat down then at around 7:30 a clearly drunk female customer went up to the bar and started threatening and swearing at the young bartender for what appeared to be no reason whatsoever. No other staff came to the girls aid, who was clearly shaken and upset by the incident. When things had calmed down we decided to stay for another drink, mostly because we were concerned for the safety of the bartender. The young female bartender requested to another member of staff, who it seemed was off duty and was also intoxicated at the time, to allow her to refuse the aggressive girls service, due to their obvious lack of respect. To our astonishment the bartender was forced to continue serving them and offered no support from any other member of staff. As a paying customer who could have easily been there with my children, this is not the environment I would wish to visit again anytime soon. It’s such a shame as I’ve been coming here for over 25 years. It’s just gone downhill rapidly over the...
Read moreI had steak (cooked medium rare), with chips & onions, I should have had salad but I didn't realize I had to order separately. My lunch came on a 'sizzle' plate completely covered in onions (far too many) unfortunately as the sizzle plate was 'sizzling' so were my sea of onions, which meant some of them were literally stuck to the plate charring and causing a rather burnt bitter taste. This heat also meant that my medium/rare steak was continuing to cook, making it more well done! I mentioned this to my waitress who then told me the best thing would've been to order my meal on a normal plate! Rather disappointed that I didn't know I could do that. It was my birthday lunch so I was rather disappointed. However my husband had a mixed grill & although the meal was sizzling no steak involved, so not over cooked! He enjoyed his. Friendly staff & nice service. I will try The Spinks Nest again when we are over that way again but at least I know to avoid...
