My experience is based on going in the evening, on a Friday, for a 6:30 reservation. I'd advise booking in advance as they get busy. We were fortunate to get a table outside. Inside was fully booked. The menu is mostly what you might describe as "standard fayre"... There's pie, burgers, steaks... But there's nothing standard about it. (There are some "standout" options on the menu too, that you wouldn't class as standard fayre). The beauty of this place though is that it doesn't want to pretend to be offering more than this. It doesn't feel too pretentious. It's just local, fresh, well cooked food. We had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, who also does front of house. He was very down to earth and confirmed this idea too. They want to offer people stuff they'll recognise and enjoy, but they want to do it well. And they do. As well as the friendly owner, all the front of house staff were not only good at their jobs and had all the manners you'd expect high quality staff to have, but they also knew how to have a bit of a laugh with you too so it wasn't at all stuffy, or high brow, which makes a difference to the overall experience. You're well looked after but in a relaxed way. The venue itself, although I only ate outside in the courtyard, so cannot comment on the restaurant inside, was well presented and the same quality and care to attention the food had was very much present in the venue's decor too. Despite being so close to the town centre and ring road, its sheltered courtyard made you feel like you could have been in the middle of nowhere. The weather was warm so it almost felt like we were abroad in some respects! For what was on offer, in terms of the quality of food and drink, the venue and experience, it was reasonably priced. The two of us had a starter each (cod goujons and garden ravioli), a main (fillet steak and ribeye steak (with all the trimmings)) and the partner had a dessert (lemon posset). I had two cokes and a tea, and the partner had two G&T's. It came to around £96. Hopefully that will give you a good idea of what to expect to pay for a good feast! I'd definitely recommend going and I will be going again. I'd like to try a day time next as they have different menus. They do a bottomless brunch which I've heard good things about too. Since it opened, I have heard nothing but rave reviews of the Scullery. And I can now rave...
Read moreWe have visited this restaurant more than any other since they opened in 2019 and the standards have always been high (in fact I think they get better!). The food is modern British cuisine using locally sourced seasonal ingredients and the flavours on offer are bold and delicious. The Sunday Lunch menu is a real highlight with 3 courses for £30 featuring a selection of Roast Dinners that are hard to beat. The Brunch menu is really varied with your traditional Full English, Eggs Benedicts, Avo on Toast as well as some new additions like Savoury Crepes and Pancake Stacks for the sweet tooths- you can also go bottomless with some refreshing Mimosas and Bellinis. The standard A La Carte has some fantastic options too- a decent list of small plates if you fancy tapas style as well as some gorgeous main course dishes to suit every palate. The signature Steak and Ale Pie is not to be missed and has been consistently good since day one! As we approach summer do not skip their stunning secret garden which on a sunny day makes you forget you are in Huddersfield- our favourite place to relax with great food and drinks. Talking of drinks, the wine list is extensive and they have picked some truly fabulous wines to pair with the food. There is also a cocktail list as well as local beers.
Steve and Helen do an amazing job at running the best restaurant in Huddersfield- we highly recommend a visit but be warned you will keep going...
Read moreWe were greeted by the owner in a friendly and jovial manner. The scullery is set in beautiful surroundings, with a calming and tranquil outdoor space. The decor has obviously been well thought out and is very classy. I cannot convey how disappointed I was with the food we were presented with. It was 12.15pm when we arrived, I selected the full English with poached eggs, my friend requested smashed avocado and bacon. The bottomless brunch provides unlimited tea, coffee or orange juice. The breakfast arrived and was presented artfully. However the perfectly round 'poached eggs' were watery and barely cooked. The sausages and bacon were rock hard, I could hardly get my knife through the overcooked, possibly over microwaved food. Eventually I caught the attention of the waitress who replaced the offending sausages with one undercooked sausage. The tea hadn't enough water to fill the teacup, so a fresh pot was requested but I fear only the hot water was replaced as it was very weak. We were then charged extra for the bacon that my friend had with her 2 slices of toast and avocado. Sadly I was crushed, we paid and left very dismayed, I was expecting much better from this...
