While on my way to university, I was always intrigued by the crowd of people gathered around the Akkawi food truck. Despite never having tried their food before, I decided to order something for my friend and I last week. The gentlemen working were efficient in serving everyone, though I did have to wait about 15 minutes - understandable due to the number of people queuing and the freshly made nature of the food.
The menu, while limited, seemed appealing. However, it was a bit confusing, particularly regarding portion sizes. Based on its popularity among other customers, I opted for the shawarma wrap. On the menu board, it simply mentioned that this order would consist of shawarma, salad, and fries. However, I was surprised to find that it only included a single wrap with a few fries inside, rather than a full meal with separate sides, especially considering its steep price at £5 each. Alternatively, the "shawarma meal deal" priced at £7 offers a drink and separate fries.
Nevertheless, my friend and I really enjoyed our wraps. Akkawi's shawarma wraps are definitely worth a try for anyone craving authentic Middle Eastern flavours. I might return to try something else on their menu sometime in the...
Read moreAkkawi is an absolute hidden gem — a small, humble restaurant with a heart bigger than its size. From the moment you step inside (or even order for takeaway), you feel a sense of warmth, care, and genuine hospitality that’s hard to find these days. The food? Absolutely phenomenal. Every dish is rich with flavour, clearly made with love and tradition. You can taste the authenticity in every bite — whether it’s the perfectly seasoned meats, the fresh bread, or the comforting sides.
What really makes Akkawi stand out is the passion behind it. You can tell the team cares deeply about what they do. They’re kind, welcoming, and always make you feel like family. It’s more than just a meal — it’s an experience.
With prices that are fair and portions that leave you full and happy, Akkawi easily earns its 4.9 rating. In my heart, it’s a solid 5. I love this place and can’t recommend it enough. Support small, support local — and treat yourself to something...
Read moreUpdated review based on more visits, salads very good with a much better range of ingredients compared to other local places. Portions a little smaller but prices also a few quid lower so all good. Currently on the way to winning my "best shawarma salad in Leeds" project.
Falafel salad recommended, really tasty houmous and falafel have great flavour, even when round and not heart-shaped :)
Old Review: Fast and polite service and a nice range of menu items, the falafel and haloumi wrap I had was pleasant enough but a little bit bland / lacking in flavour and didnt have as many components when compared with similar from other local vendors like Falafel Guys.
I wasn't asked any questions regarding the fillings so presumably got the representative default menu item.
I'd be more than happy to try other items on a return visit but I they wouldn't be my "go to" for a falafel & haloumi...
