pre booked for a large party on a Monday, not many other customers there. Despite knowing we were coming suggested some of our party would get their food straight away and others would be waiting 90 minutes. We paid individually for our own meals up front at the bar. A couple of mistakes when taking orders resulted in one bill being overcharged (paid double what they should have done) and had to be rectified. all of our party had received their food apart from two people and when questioned when this would be ready was told 'the waiting staff are sure they have already brought this food to you' and insinuated that another member of our party must have ate their meal as well as their own! Even when a senior manager came the stance was that they would neither refund the meals that were paid for or bring the food out and the blame was placed squarely on us! Was then told they would check CCTV to see if they had brought the food down! Eventually they brought one of the meals - no apology or admitting in the wrong and no second meal which was eventually refunded after an hour long battle. The waiting staff were completely rude and told a customer to shut up for trying to raise a point. There was one nice young blonde waiter who probably deserves better than to work for a self indulged, arrogant, miserable and quite frankly clueless management team. Food was okay, not great - but all ruined by the most appalling service i...
Read moreLovely Sunday dinner!! It’s popular so you have to book (Covid or no Covid). You get your table for two hours which is plenty and during our ‘slot’ we saw two groups of people politely told they were fully booked. There’s both an upstairs and downstairs bar, the downstairs bar being dog friendly. The booking system asks which area you’d like to be in, including outside). The Sunday menu is simply a traditional Sunday roast with a choice of three meats as well as both a Vegetarian and a Vegan roast. The success I believe is it’s simplicity. Because the chefs aren’t having to make a zillion different meals they are concentrating on perfecting their roasts. My first test is always whether the veg includes peas, not because I dislike peas but because a lot of pubs serve these as an easy option (easy to cook from frozen). No peas here though…instead we got perfectly cooked broccoli, carrots and cabbage. The shredded brisket was delish and yaaay parsnips, stuffing and a pig in a blanket and it’s not even Christmas!! 😁👍🏻 Topped off with a huge home cooked Yorkshire pud and no skimping on the gravy! We also shared a sticky toffee pud with again, plenty of caramel sauce. We will deffo book here again!
Bonus: Because it’s by the river and canal you can cross the road and go for a wander down the tow path before or after...
Read moreThis has been my local for years. It was superb before Covid and I was a regular. After Covid, it's dropped in quality a bit. The beer is still good (Kirkstall Brewery), but some (not all!) staff are very rude -- something that never happened pre-Covid. Once a person carded me very rudely -- even others at the bar noticed.
Just a few weeks ago, a very nasty staff member chastised my exhausted husband for sleeping. I understand that pubs have a no-sleep rule -- for good reason -- and we are fine with being told that. But this staff member did it very rudely "we don't have benches in here" and threatened to ban us for life. When we asked if the ban applied to only my husband or the whole friend group, the staff member replied with something like, "I'm not the police". My husband wrote to the pub with details of the incident and they replied asking for more info, which he gave.
I don't know what has happened next, but we have decided not to go back there -- facing the unpleasantness from some staff members is not for us. It's very sad as we used to be regulars and have memories there, and post-Covid still looked on it as a place to relax, but that staff member was so extraordinarily unpleasant that we...
