I wonder whether they have changed the chief, or I have missed the master chief and unfortunately met the rookie chief at my arrival. Although I saw here many 5-star reviews of a few years ago, there are lots of things waiting for improvement now. I think the food I have had here, compared with the one in Hong Kong and Japan, or even wasabi or itsu in UK, is just okay, barely passed.
First, the rice is not cooked up to the standard. For Japanese rice, it should be washed enough before cooking. It is different from Indian long rice. For Japanese rice, every grain of rice should be sticky enough. But the rice here is rough, dry and aged. It is unacceptable for the rice like this in any Japanese restaurant, not to say if it is in sushi.
Second, the pork chop is strange in texture. It may be frozen for too long.
Third, the place is not clean enough. There is dust on the wall. It is not feeling well for sit-in. It may be better for takeaway, but for delivery, um...you may judge yourself from the comment above and below. Well....you know what I mean.
Personally, I think the soup of the ramen is not hot enough. I have not tried suchi or sashimi because my stomach is not good. However, I appreciate the beer Asahi and the video of Gundam displayed behind cashier. If you would like to try this restuarant, I would recommend the plates of fried pumpkin pie and gyoza.(well, normally for general standard of Japanese gyoza, there should be a crispy layer linking all gyoza...um..I need expectation management in UK) I guess the other fried vegatables from the chief should be good. Katsu also looks good. The price of portion is worth the value as in a dinner.
By the way, I hear within the staff they communicate in Cantonese and I think it is also a selling point for Hong Kong style Japanese food because there are some great Japanese food available only in Hong Kong insead of in Japan, such as Prawn Tempura 炸蝦天婦羅 and Hana Maki (or Salmon and Capelin Roe) 花之戀壽司. 花之戀, in Hong Kong Chinese, literally means the love by the flowers. Hana Maki is a kind of sushi dressed like the rose to the lover and there is a real touching sad love story behind. Really eye-catching and good taste! Well, I guess the owner of this restaurant may be the old immigrants from Hong Kong long time ago? or Guangzhou China?. I am not sure because the senior waitress coming to me is really not friendly and they do not have both dishes. But I am interesting to know where I can have true Hong Kong style Japanese food and would rather choose to try another one if...
Read moreBy far the worst customer service I've ever encountered in my life, and I'm directing this review to the owner's terrible manners and service in handling his own mistakes.
He mistakenly prepared the wrong order but still knowingly served it to us without informing us. Upon paying the bill, he double charged us with the food that we did not order and on top of that, the food we initially ordered but did not eat.
When we reflected this issue to him, he blamed it was our fault for not informing him that we were being served the wrong food, and insisted us to pay (with a very foul attitude to the extent of verbally assaulting us as he made accusations that we only chose not to pay after we had finished eating the food and demanded us to leave his premise and not come back again, provided that we paid for the full bill)
It makes no sense because we weren't aware of the mistake as there were no pictures provided on the menu. He knew that he mistakenly prepared the wrong order, but nevertheless still made the conscious decision to serve it to us and proceeded to ask us during the meal if we were okay with the food, which later on, this statement was used against us.
Not only this is a dishonest move of manipulating us to get the "consent" he plotted, it could potentially pose a health and safety hazard to the consumers, because we could possibly be allergic to the food that he mistakenly served us. In pure absurdity, consumers are not obliged to pay whatever food that has been served on the table without our consent.
On top of that, as revenge, he revoked the 10% student discount from the bill (with no valid reason) albeit we were entitled to it. In sum, food is terrible, service is horrendous, there are way more better Japanese...
Read moreDear Senbon Sakura Cafe, please read this review and feel free to reply. We placed an order through Uber. Your restaurant uses your own drivers for delivery. There was no updates on our order progress through you via Uber. Our order was delivered late and cold. It was impossible to contact you for an order update via the app or calling your restaurant. I spoke to your driver about the service and quality of food. To our surprise, your driver put their hand into our food to check the temperature, which immediately made our food inedible. The driver said that "I'm just a delivery driver in an £80k sports car delivering a £30 meal". Why he felt compelled to say this is ridiculous. He said he would action a refund from the restaurant for us, and I witnessed him messaging you. You didn't action the refund. We had to go through Uber support. This order was terrible. We have the conversation and actions of your driver on CCTV, and I am happy to come into your restaurant to share this with you.
Update from response: Thank you for the reply. On reflection, It would have been reasonable of you to have updated us during our order. We don't agree that you authorised the refund. No push notification from the Uber app came through. We spoke to Uber support this morning, they stated they had no acknowledgement or authorisation from you. Please don't lie and you should review your "third...
