The Wellington at Seaford is one of the friendliest, most welcoming places we have stayed and is amazing value for money. The owners, Simon and Nina, are a lovely couple and have clearly put heart and soul (and money!) into upgrading the facilities since they took ownership, which I gather unfortunately coincided with the outbreak of Covid. ||||The welcome on arrival could not have been warmer and we were shown to our room by Nina, one of the owners. The spacious room was immaculately clean and the bed was super comfortable and mercifully squeak-free, in both respects unlike the P**mier Inn at Newhaven where we made the mistake of staying on the inward leg of our trip to the UK from France. Our room, just like the entire inn, has been newly double glazed with stylish sash windows, so there was virtually no noise at all from what light traffic that passed by outside and we enjoyed our first night of unbroken sleep in several days. The room was equipped with a large TV (Freeview), tea and coffee facilities and WiFi.||||Downstairs the pub and restaurant are equally welcoming and cosy, and after a very pleasant, bracing walk along the seafront (the promenade is just a couple of minutes down the road from The Wellington) we ate an early evening meal which was prepared by Simon, Nina's husband. The menu was excellent, with something for all tastes and plenty of vegetarian options, though we plumped for real sausage and mash! A properly tasty, delicious treat, washed down with a chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio and followed by a scrumptious chocolate fudge cake.||||We had breakfast in the restaurant next morning - full English for him and continental for her - which was prepared and served by Simon. This was without a doubt the best English breakfast I can ever remember, and it knocked the offering that we previously had at the Newhaven inn into a cocked hat; it was not some tepid, serve yourself buffet, but the real deal, generous and freshly prepared to order. And it costs less, too!||||There is free on-street parking outside the Wellington - arriving late afternoon on the Tuesday we were able to park just a few yards from the main entrance. After breakfast on Wednesday we packed our bags, made our farewells and had a short, ten-minute drive to Newhaven ferry terminal for our crossing back home to France. ||||In short, we thoroughly recommend The Wellington to anyone staying in the area, whether for a stay or for a meal. If they'll have us, we'll definitely book again if we use the same ferry...
Read moreDisappointing Fish and Chips Experience We recently visited The Wellington Pub in Seaford, hoping for a satisfying meal. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of our expectations. Fish and Chips: The fish and chips were a mixed bag. While the chips were nice, the batter on the fish was disappointingly chewy. It lacked the crispy texture we associate with well-prepared fish and chips. Flat Coke: To add to our disappointment, the Coke we ordered was completely flat. A refreshing drink is essential to complement a meal, and this oversight was unfortunate. Service and Timing: On the positive side, the food arrived after a short wait, and it was indeed piping hot. Overall, while the food quality had its ups and downs, the overall experience at The Wellington Pub was not what we would expect from a decent pub. We didn’t complain due to time constraints, but we hope they address these issues to provide a better dining experience for future patrons. Read moreMy wife and I had an overnight stay at The Wellington. I cannot say the venue was perfection, the rooms are a little tired, could be a little cleaner, the little TV just about functions and the room was very cold. The caring, friendly and courteous staff, however, more than made up for these small imperfections - hence the 5-star review. Simon and his wife were amazing hosts (helped also by Simon's wife's twin sister) and nothing was too much trouble. When we mention that our room was cold we were immediately given a space convection heater for our room, which really helped. In fairness, the outside temperature was well below zero, so not the usual weather conditions. My wife has some relatively uncommon food allergies, which we mentioned to Simon. He was totally unphased and went out of his way to personally prepare dinner for us so that we could enjoy a really tasty meal. We also had breakfast the following morning that Simon also prepared, so again a decent meal. Prices of the room and meals were very reasonable. We are happy to recommend The Wellington and to stay there again if our travels take us back to the...
