As a huge fan of the Angel coffee house (the previous business in this location) I was cautiously optimistic about Vestry Hall Coffee, In my opinion the Angel is a tough act to follow. Upon visiting Vestry for the first time I was quite frankly blown away. As soon as we walked in the owner was incredibly friendly, polite and spoke to us in a way that made us feel incredibly valued as customers, not something you feel every day and certainly not a feeling you get in many independent coffee shops!
My partner and I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with salami each and an americano, our sandwiches were fantastic but the real star of the show was the coffee. (See photo) the depth of flavour in the coffee was incredible, a real treat after a week at work drinking generic instant coffee. The owner came up to us to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and told us about the beans used, their origins etc.
The care and attention to detail is very apparent, the atmosphere is perfect. For a business that is only a couple of months old at this point their vision for the future is clear and Iâm incredibly excited for what lies ahead! We shall be returning again and again and again! 10/10, five...
Read morevisited this cafe yesterday after travelling to Lincoln with friends. Great little cafe, lovely interiors and good food choice (including vegan options). The owner of this establishment however, is a very unusual guy. When my friend went to place her order, he said âtalk to me blue eyes, talk to meâ which was just downright creepy iâll be honest. He continued with the whole âwhy donât you tell meâ bravado whenever we asked him questions, and when my other friend went to the loo said âdonât go sniffing the seat, you canât get away with that nowadaysâ. I found this crass remark wildly inappropriate, and although iâm sure that it was all âharmlessâ to him, these things just shouldnât be said. He was a jolly, overconfident man and maybe this is just his sense of humour being expressed, however if he wants to run a warm and welcoming establishment he needs to educate himself on how to act around customers...
Read moreCame in with a female friend for a light lunch, impressed with the quality of food on offer. Less impressed however with the behaviour of the owner.
My friend and I were enjoying our meal and catching up for the first time in months and the owner deemed it appropriate to insert himself into the conversation. It started with asking how the food was to making more inappropriate comments such as referring to her as "princess" and when coming over placed his hands on her shoulders on more than one occasion over the course of its meal.
There is no way that this behaviour at any point was appropriate, particularly given that this was our first ever time visiting the venue. It made us both feel very uncomfortable and we will not be returning.
I write this review in the hope that this instance becomes a one off and that no one else finds themselves in a...
