BagelEats - Poplar — Restaurant in London

I came here today for lunch with a friend - I arrived at 1245 and was surprised to see there was nobody visible serving and there were no other customers, just one of the staff sitting at a table talking loudly on his phone. I stood at the counter for at least 5 minutes but nobody came to help so I sat at a table near the guy on the phone to wait for my friend but I was still ignored until my friend arrived and we went to the counter and had to shout for service.

Whilst I was waiting another customer came up to me and asked if anyone had taken my order as she was similarly being ignored and she too had to call through the hatch for attention.

My food was ok but the sausage in my friend's meal was distinctly undercooked, being pink and raw in the middle, and he had to lean through the serving hatch to call for someone to replace it!

I paid by credit card but when I asked for a receipt the staff member told me that he didn't know how to make the machine print one and tore a page out of a notepad offering to write one but I told him that wasn't acceptable and returned to our table.

A short time later he leant through the hatch and and handed me a receipt his colleague printed out but it was just an account of the credit card transaction. not an itemised receipt showing how the bill was made up. so I couldn't see how the total was arrived it.

We had high hopes for this place but after today's bad experience WE WILL NOT...

I've been a regular customer of Bagel Eats for a while now, and one of the main reasons is that the food is genuinely delicious - consistently tasty and satisfying, which is why I’ve kept coming back.

However, I’ve recently noticed that the panini fillings have become much lighter than they used to be. It’s reached a point where it feels like I’m mostly eating bread and cheese, with very little of the main ingredients. That’s been quite disappointing, especially given how good the food usually is.

I completely understand that rising costs are affecting everyone, including small food businesses, but it does feel like the portion changes have started to impact the overall value. Unfortunately, it's made me reconsider continuing to order, as the price no longer feels justified by the amount of filling.

I’m sharing this as constructive feedback because I’d genuinely love to keep supporting Bagel Eats if things return to the quality and balance I used to...

I ordered the chicken and mayo seeded panini (with some chilli sauce) & the double smash burger. Absolutely love this place they always put lots of love, care and attention into their food and orders they look after their customers. I've been coming here since it first opened up and I have to say it is easily the best food establishment in the area everything is HMC certified clean and of high quality the food tastes amazing and the staff are really friendly and attentive more businesses could learn a thing or two from this place. They don't just do bagels and burgers they also do a wide selection of soft drinks and sweet treats like milk cakes they also do full English breakfast, hot drinks, milk shakes, juices and smoothies.
